There is one customer review on Amazon that gives the book high praise.

I checked Barnes & Noble (US) and it appears to be on sale. The Amazon one says out of stock.

Yes, I read that Adrian. There's one review by the amazon reviewer that gives 5 stars to most things:

My questions about the contents are mainly about how useful it is and the quality. I would like to see a preview of the index and a few pages but I have found none so far.

Does it indicate lots of tactical and operating details to the point where it can be seen as a 'Rosetta Stone' for a tank army and improve comprehension of operational histories?

Eg. Some things I am pretty curious about, most obviously the synergistic attributes of the tank army model 1943-44.

Quote:
c 250 b/w photos, 16pp colour maps, c 70 tables
The text is ~500 pages and all these tables and photos make it seem like a much shorter book (maybe 250-300 pages of actual text) that is padded with graphics, index/intro filler, and tables.

Then there's the fact that it's about a Corps sized unit- a tank army with 2-3 tank corps/mech corps plus myraid attachments- so not about a single division which may water down focus.

I'll probably buy it eventually, although like many I like to see examples of a product first.

The author has two inactive accounts (Igorn) on axishistory and feldgrau. He has a website devoted to the book but it doesn't reveal much.

http://2gvta.ru/doc/en/foreward/

He's done a splendid job not promoting his book

The full book (in eng it has two parts) is 800 pages, 50 maps, 500 photographs.

Quote:
This is the first study on the combat history of any Russian/Soviet unit available in English language known to the author. The 2nd GTA was not an ordinary formation but by 1945 became an elite tank guards army which played a decisive role in the Soviet offensive operations of 1945 and whose tanks first entered Berlin streets in April 1945. The Army commander, Colonel-General Semen Bogdanov shortly after the war became a Marshal of Armor troops and was promoted to the position of Chief Commander of all armor and tank units of the USSR and remained in this position till 1953. This book is based on the rarely available operational documents of the Army from the Central Archive of the Russian Defense Ministry and provides an analysis of every battle 2nd Tank Army fought in WW2. This includes Citadel North, Sevsk, Cherkassy, Tyrgul-Frumos & Jasy, Warsaw, Vistula-Oder, Pomerania (including Sonnenwende) and Berlin. What differentiates this book is that it was created in cooperation with the senior army general (Anatoly Shvebig) who was an active participant of all army engagements. Another unique point is that combat operations are covered from both sides in such scope and scale that was never done so far. The day by day coverage of events, real view of Army Command, full statistical data which includes strength, movements, casualties for each operation from Russian and German sides, original maps and human element based on the exciting first-hand reminiscenes of the Soviet tank officers. All these points makes this title a valuable source of information of tank battles fought on the Eastern Front 1943-1945. According to Major-General Anatloly Svebig, deputy 12th Guards Tank Corps commander of the 2nd GTA this is the best study on any Soviet unit he has ever seen in his long life. For those interested in serious study of the tank battles on the Eastern front. 800 pages, 50 maps and about 500 original photographs including rare ones from private Russian collections.
*** bought the book myself.

In trawling the author's accounts he seemed to have been fascinated by this subject (particularly tank to tank shoot outs) of the 2. Tank Army for years while soliciting info from serious researchers. Also, he spends a lot of time feuding with other posters (LOL).

From a cursory examination, I would say this book is a must buy for those interested in the Eastern front.

On a related subject I have a copy of Thunder at Prokhorovka: A Combat History of Operation Citadel, Kursk, July 1943

At first glance, it is a very long and extremely comprehensive/statistics laden but at the same time, not detailed (in terms of mapping out the action/environment/terrain and operational decision making) tactical account that is difficult to read and is written like a war diary. It looks like the type of book that is better read after one has read the good books on the subject or as a reference to support other materials.

My copy is now shipped (on the same day) after I switched vendors. Turns out that the vendor didn't even have it on hand (unlike advertised) and had to order it elsewhere which would incur a long wait into July.

Looking around, there appears to be few copies of this new book in the world.............
