Colorized Civil War Photographs

Hey all! I'm back from a brief hiatus with a few hundred new images, I hope you don't mind me posting them. :P

I was recently so lucky to work on a show called Blood and Glory for the History Channel, a 2 hour long documentary filled with colorized images by yours truly, a lot of those images will be posted here!

Lincoln meeting with General George B. 'Little Mac' McClellan at Antietam in September of 1862.

Don't quote me on this, but I imagine spending a year or so in the field would make anyone look scruffy.

Thank you as ever for the warm welcome fellas.

Lincoln meeting with General George B. 'Little Mac' McClellan at Antietam in September of 1862.

Left to right:

Delos B. sackett (at picture colonel), George Monteith (in the far rear, faintly visible, reportedly captain at picture), Nelson B. Sweitzer (colonel at picture), georg morell (major general at picture, he fought at bull run and was ranked illegally at the time without confirmation, he was disfranchised and discharged due to his support of porter and fighting operations), Alexander S. Webb (in rear), chief of staff of V corps, rank colonel at picture, george b. McLellan (rank general at the time, he has just led the army of the potomac into battle at anteitam, he was previously decisively rused and retreated from virginia when in command, he would be disfranchised after this battle), the man in the rear is a scout soldier reportedly, Jonathan letterman, the famous doctor, his command saved thousands of wounded troops, he disassociated with the army after lack of support to his operations, rank medical director at picture, the man behind him is unknown reportedly but I am certain he is an officer, lincoln, henry J. Hunt, the famous artillerist, rank general at picture, John porter, the black sheep of bull run, he was blamed for the defeat and disfranchised from the army, ranked general at picture, the man hidden in the back is unknown reportedly, Frederick T. Locke, the colonel of porter and his supporter, Andrew A. Humphreys, a man who befriended jefferson davis before the war, he was a topographer in Mclellan's command, and was engineer in the defenses of Washington, ranked general at picture, and finally, George custer, the famous cavalryman, ranked captain in the picture.

i analyze the photo and will post the results.

this photo shows many many interesting things, it is a very very good image

u see many interesting details and factors in this photo hard to find in many others

first from the left group, the two colonels, nelson and delos, delos is standing at a slightly leaning posture, he is a very powerful and hard man, worthy of the army, he is probably the 2nd longest man after lincoln shown in this particular photo, he was married to a girl from the people of the Cherokee,, he and nelson appear to show some fatigue, delos is very notable in the picture, he does'n have a belt, his clothes are worn, they also appear to be ready-taken, he did'n tailor-order his uniform like other officers, it's not his size exactly, his collar and cuffs are regular coat, not tailored to look formal, his uniform is definitely ready, he is also wearing cavalry boots.

his friend next to him, is more formal, his uniform is his fit size but his arms down' show nor his collar, but his collar is definitely buttoned and tight, he missed a button on his coat, i'm not sure if I'm mistaken but I think the right line of buttons on his coat are not well lined (bad tailorsman?), he is wearing a belt, cavalry boots, he has an isignia on his kepi, his kepi is slightly leaned to the side, and the panel on it is different, more straight.

Behind them in the middle is a faintly visible looking man, reportedly: captain George Monteith, he looks strange, he is not well visible and unclear, this means he has moved, he has white patterns in his uniform, unbuttoned? his uniform is most likely tailored due to the decorative collar, his hand is on his stomach, he must've been holding something, maybe even tightening his belt? Another very distinctive thing about that man; he is not wearing riding boots, one of very few soldiers not wearing them in this photo, we can conclude he was looking formal for the occasion, or was sitting somewhere nearby when the event took place, and thus is not wearing his riding boots

coming to the right, we find a very distinctive man of the photo; general George morell, his clothes, are very formal and very fit, he wears a uniform just his size, one of the most distinctive things about him is that he is not wearing riding boots; indicating preparation for the occasion/photo or being idle nearby when this took place, he is wearing the distinctive decorative collar and cufflinks, his uniform is definitely tailor-ordered, he is wearing a belt, and holds his sword vertically on the ground, he was a hard man, saw heavy fighting previously at bull run, he was ran-aground after his support for porter, who was blamed for the debacle at bull run II, his button-design is 3-button, his jacket is double-breasted, he is somewhat thin and slender to note

to his right; another distinctive and striking figure, alexander s. webb, he is one of few characters looking towards the camera, and his stare is an imposing one, as if he just noticed a photograph was being taken of them, another thing very interesting is that he is the only man not wearing a hat, he is holding his kepi in his right hand, his uniform is clean but apparently not his size, the arms are a bit wide too, it must've been not tailor-ordered, he looks very powerful and well-bodied, he also was a hard man, having seen very vigorous action in many battles including gettysburg later in his life, his brigade came under intensive attacks from enemy troops under the overall command of picketts during gettysburg, as he attempted to push his troops back into the fight in vain, he was wounded two times, and also fought with a friendly flag bearer to possess the flag, who refused to give it to him.

I will continue this later
