I'm an admin. I'm the guy who asked. Admins aren't employees of WHG. We're just volunteers from the forum who were given post-fact ability to manipulate the forums and assist us creating content that we were working on anyhow. In my case I was running group builds and games. The mod/super/admin abilities just got tagged on to help me. But I ain't no one special. And I would really prefer doing the content without the admin B.S. of policing other people's juvenile behavior and being the whipping boy for things that other people say and do.

Wow, this is sad news ... although not entirely unexpected.

Any word on whether they will continue with a digital version?

The mag I seldom bought. Not my liking. My question is how will it effect the forum. I don't need an answer from mods etc but from the way ups. Is ACG Forum going to continued or is it scheduled to be deleted? ACG and the members have become sort of a family after all these years and if ACG is going to go belly up I need to start looking for some place new.

Who is "whipping" you? I see no evidence of that here.

If the admins "in charge" don't know what's going on, we're in a lot of trouble on many levels.

Indeed. My first sign of this was the same advertisement. Gave me quite a shock.

I began journalism school thinking I would write something for ACG magazine at some point.

I suppose that ship has sailed. Bummer.

I never "subscribe" to e-mags. To me, the real value of a magazine is part of its physical presence on my side table, there to picked up and perused at my leisure, set down briefly, resumed when I wish and where I wish, needing no batteries or internet connection and incapable of being altered or edited after it is published.

Magazines last for many decades, and contain additional information of historic value beyond their articles, while e-mags are subject to the whims of available storage space and electronic digital distortion. A magazine can be put into a footlocker and is still there, still ready to be read, fifty years later...or even longer.

Pick up an old National Geographic sometime, ignore the articles and read the advertisements for a wonderful look into the economic life and times of America in the past, what was important and what it cost back then. That's often of more interest than anything else to those who truly appreciate history in its entirety.

Do you sit on your porch and yell at "the kids" to get off your grass? Seriously the world is evolving, you don't have to embrace it, but businesses do.

WGuys ...

Your publication/rag, you can't add a couple more pages of in-house promo on your other mags (@10-12 ...) along with a few other pages of adds to make this foundation/cornerstone journal remain a multi-media intro to the rest of what you have to offer ???

Come on ... I've done enough retail(sales), marketing(sales), distribution(sales), hussle(sales), to know you are tossing in the towel way too soon given your product line and potential that looks to be fumbled here ...

Worst move the Weider Gang could do would be to cease hardcopy print of their flagship Magazine ...

Printing costs are high. There's magazines with a lot more popular appeal that have gone digital.

It's the wave of the future - everything digital.

Frankly, I hate the thought despite the logic of it.

I suppose the next thing to go will be libraries - just a big room with a bunch of computers hooked up to the mainframe. A lot of advantages but not the same as the satisfaction of finding the book yourself on a shelf and handling it.

Yeah...I know...dinosaurs...

You should still be able to write and submit digitally, PM. Not the same as being able to send a copy of yourself in print to the family, or hanging it on your wall, but still...

Actually, a number of public libraries have an on-line feature that allows you to download a book. The book document has a feature that locks it once the 'return date' arrives.

I was skeptical about it at first myself, but I spend a lot of time waiting to testify, and having access to hundreds of books on my phone has really been nice.

Agree, there is something about turning the pages.....and the feeling of ownership in having a book.

I was about to submit some new work (did some reviews way, way back) when Eric told me hang on because of the upcoming changes.

As a freshly-schooled media industry person from a college recognized for advancing digital media, I can understand a move to focus on the website version. But in this case, I have noted in my studies that some types (including history buffs) prefer printed materials, and I wonder if cutting all physical circulation is wise.
