STUDY: Satellites Show No Acceleration In Global Warming For 23 Years

Global warming has not accelerated temperature rise in the bulk atmosphere in more than two decades, according to a new study funded by the Department of Energy.
University of Alabama-Huntsville climate scientists John Christy and Richard McNider found that by removing the climate effects of volcanic eruptions early on in the satellite temperature record it showed virtually no change in the rate of warming since the early 1990s.
“We indicated 23 years ago — in our 1994 Nature article — that climate models had the atmosphere’s sensitivity to CO2 much too high,” Christy said in a statement. “This recent paper bolsters that conclusion.”
Christy and McNider found the rate of warming has been 0.096 degrees Celsius per decade after “the removal of volcanic cooling in the early part of the record,” which “is essentially the same value we determined in 1994 … using only 15 years of data.”

Amazing to see how little humans had to do with that trend that still persists...

Bold is mine and speaks for itself.

Worth expanding on the above comment.
Actual paper here: https://wattsupwiththat.files.wordpr..._mcnider-1.pdf

Quote:
We identify and remove the main natural perturbations (e.g. volcanic activity, ENSOs) from the global mean lower tropospheric temperatures (TLT) over January 1979 - June 2017 to estimate the underlying, potentially human-forced trend. The unaltered value is +0.155 K dec−1 while the adjusted trend is +0.096 K dec−1, related primarily to the removal of volcanic cooling in the early part of the record.
One might want to consider to actually read the report, rather than reading a biaised and disingenuous political opinion of it. If you do so, one can clearly understand that the Earth is still getting warmer when you remove the impact of natural forces effecting climate change. The Earth is still getting warmer, regardless of nature, thus unnatural forces, ie manmade, forces are adversely effecting the climate.

People need to stop listening to political sound bites less, and read more science instead.

The problem is that the climate modeling isn't really science. It's what is done after the scientific data is produced to make projections and has been sufficiently inaccurate to question the underlying data.

There is always bias. I have no doubt that the people arguing against GW have political motivations. What people that support the consensus fail to acknowledge is that the bias in favor of GW is built into the science. The study mandate has never been to study the climate but rather to study how humans are warning the earth. If climate study had been a mature science that may have been fine. The problem is that no science has yet to come up with a way to deal with complex chaotic systems. Stephen Wolfram and his new kind of science may be the best attempt to date but it has not produced a revolution in our understanding. I have listed some of the tools needed to make climate science a more practical enterprise in the past if anyone is interested.

Climate science is not simple physics, the earth is a biological system. Life has proven very resistant to the kind of simple explanations that chemists, physicists, etc. like to deploy.

Deploy?

The evidence proved/linked by wattsupwiththat is that manmade warming is true.

Which bit of the science did you not understand?.

The paper states that after natural causes are eliminated, the Earth is still warming.

Since natural causes are now ruled out, that means unnatural causes are why the Earth is now warming.

You have way to much faith in the people doing the "science".

The question isn't if humans are warning the planet but by how much and I remind you that the models are based on the science not the science itself.

The models were wrong and have become less accurate with time.

These models were designed to over estimate the effects of CO2 on global warming and they fulfilled their goal.

Plasma physicists can't even accurately model a man made plasma in a Tokamak, which is a man made machine. But somehow, we can model the entire Earth's weather which is a far more complex system that we can't manipulate to perform experiments.

Plasma physicists have been doing Tokamak experiments for 60 years...

Here is an actual study of climate models vs. reality.

This paper is pretty "thick", but that's what real science is all about.

The models can't even predict the past, let alone the future.

Honestly I read the paper and it seems reasonable but it would take a month to evaluate it and I still could not say if the conclusions are reliable.

I will say that the point analysis seems like a stretch. Nobody knows how warming will be distributed. That is why the satellite data seems to me to be the best data.

It would be easier to simply demand that the models make accurate predictions that can be easily verified than to sort through all the voices. It is too important a topic for the experts to hide behind credentials. I have seen their willingness to come up with data that agree with the models miraculously just in time for a climate conference so no I do not trust the experts.

You were quite willing to approve a perceived view of science, until it was shown not to support your POV. Then you dismiss it. Not a totally scientific approach to the facts.

The actual fact remains is that a climateskeptic site is posting evidence that belies its political stance. The actual science of the relevant paper states that once natural forces are removed, the earth is still warming. There is only one reason for this fact.
