You would, of course, be a welcome addition.

But I am sorry you can't view this.

Thanks for the recent "rep".

3rd episode available as from today, but I am now assuming only for Aussie IP address.

Sorry to give such short notice, but I just found out myself with less than 30 min. to go.

Planes that changed the world

Quote:
This series features the fascinating stories of three of the most important commercial aircraft ever to take to the skies. This premiere episode tells the story of how visionary geniuses from the top-secret Skunk Works, rewrote the rule-book to create a plane that was 'all miracles'. The SR71 Blackbird was the world's first stealth spyplane, and the fastest, highest-flying manned airplane in the world.
SBS 1 @ 1930hrs.

I hope to find a working link later.

EDIT- Link:

http://www.sbs.com.au/ondemand/video...-S-R-71-Blackb

Valid until 20 April.

Part 2 of the series - Douglas DC3

Part 3 Airbus A380

I was a bit underwhelmed by the first episode, but still better than nothing.

While Von Ohain was designer of first operational engine, they said Whittle was "widelly regarded as invertor of jet engine"...so techically not an error. Just a minor nittpicking on my part

I would say Whittle was an inventor of a / the jet engine since Von Ohain invented his on his own as opposed to using Whittle's design or knowledge to do it.

It is sort of the same way with many inventions. More than one person comes up with some variant of it.

It's sad that it has been 2 years since I have seen a completely new documentary worth mentioning.

One that I had the pleasure of watching yesterday concerns USAF pilot Col. Robin Olds and his time in Vietnam.

Link to video:

http://www.sbs.com.au/ondemand/program/air-aces

It is part of a series of six produced by Cineflix of Canada.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_Aces

This series has aired on cable, which I have not subscribed to for a number of years now.

Hi Wes,

Australian public broadcaster SBS now requires setting up an account to view "On Demand" content.

The process involved to set up an account is name/email address/DofB/gender why?

Once signed up, the link to this "Planes that changed the world" episode on the SR-71 Blackbird is:

http://www.sbs.com.au/ondemand/video...r-71-blackbird

Happy Viewing.

Yes, SR-71 was last weeks episode.

What you say about youtube is probably true WRT not needing to undertake a "tedious" sign up(mine only took 60 seconds or so IIRC from last week - but I did object to them putting a third option for "gender", being "I do not identify as either male or female" )

but I don't have to search for it.

It is on my "free-to-air" weekly TV guide.

In this thread I am merely attempting to provide notice of documentaries that I believe are of superior quality/highly noteworthy.

Youtube has a lot of content, but not all of it is of a high standard.

Anyway, Wes(Admiral) likes 'em.

P.S. Good recollections of use on D-Day and the Berlin Airlift in today's episode.
