Maybe you could also explain how the Russian astrologers are "helping the rouble" and where the astrologer promised to "help" it?

And surely, if a channel is state-owned, every single second of its broadcasting, even entertainment and horoscopes, is double-checked with Putin and his Great Propaganda Machine. Even Disney cartoons have ulterior sinister motives inserted in them, not speaking of Pavel Globa's blood-chilling predictions.

Putin acts to halt rising vodka cost

Quote:
Vodka prices: Putin calls for cap amid economic crisis

Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered his government to curb rising vodka prices.

Mr Putin, who has been hit by increasing economic woes, said that high prices encouraged the consumption of illegal and possibly unsafe alcohol.

Russia's currency, the rouble, has lost value recently due to falling oil prices and Western sanctions.

The country's former finance minister warned that Russia would enter recession next year.

Mr Putin, who promotes a healthy lifestyle, asked "relevant agencies" to think about what he said, adding that the government should fight against the illegal trafficking of alcohol.

According to a leading university study last year, 25% of Russian men die before reaching their mid-50s, Reuters reports.

If I give one of your Russian coves £40 and a sheffield steel knife, could you bungle one of these Ursines into a box and airmail it over? The constabulary need not know. I've always wanted a bear for a pet.

I can't believe it hasn't been posted here yet! Frankly, I think it was the boy's father who pranked the school administration and the kids. There had to be rehearsals and surely any idiot could see it was going to be a nativity play.

Stalin the show: Russian schoolboy has audience in hysterics after turning up as Soviet dictator instead of Joseph of Nazareth

Quote:
When Russian schoolboy Ilya Gavrichenko told his parents he was playing Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin in his school production, they put together the perfect costume - moustache and all.

It was only when he arrived on the night of the performance that they realised he was meant to be playing a very different role - Joseph of Nazareth.

Ilya, who is 12, was dressed in a white shirt, jacket, military trousers and army boots when he arrived at the school in St Petersburg.

With no time to change before the start of the nativity, he was left with no choice but to accompany the Virgin Mary to Bethlehem while dressed as the murderous tyrant.

His father Fedor, who made the costume, said: 'We even got him a perfect moustache.

'We were all ready for him to be a success.'

Despite the misunderstanding over the boy's part in the play, Ilya still kept the audience entertained with his performance.

'He was supposed to accompany the Virgin Mary but there was no time to change the outfit,' his father said.

'Each time he went out on stage, the mothers were in hysterics, crying and yowling from somewhere under their chairs.
Joseph bringing the Soviet Star of Bethlehem to Mary

Here's the Facebook post:

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...type=1&theater

And this post would be incomplete without the hilariously idiotic reaction from Soviet/Russia bashers:

Quote:
Those who can read the original Facebook post in Russian will notice that the father knows as little about the Nativity story as his son, confusing characters and their roles in the story. This is rather a norm in Russia, where erstwhile official atheism is only now being replaced by the official Orthodox Church. This St. Petersburg father couldnít tell the shepherds from angels even if his sonís play werenít in German. But at least heís trying.
Don't mention the mass baptisms of the late 1980's, religious resurgence of the 1990's, Putin's frequent showings in churches and the fact that the All-Night Vigil, which is starting right now, by the way, is broadcast live on some TV channels while others always remind of it in the news. Some TV news programs even mention minor holidays like the days of particular saints. Sure, the guy had no idea of what Christmas is about and thought there might be a children's middle school play involving Stalin.

I'm glad they rolled with it; I am sure many parents and a few more aware kids had a good laugh at such potential for satire.

I think I would have died laughing if that had happened. It's a perfect bit of comedy - you couldn't write a better scene for a movie, really.

Russia: Shovel snow yourselves, says city politician

Quote:
A Russian politician has irked residents in St Petersburg by saying people should clear snow from the city's streets themselves, it's reported.

Deputy Governor Igor Albin made the comment after city authorities were criticised for not keeping the roads clear following heavy snow, the Meduza news website reports. One complaint came from magazine editor Pavel Smolyak, who says in a Facebook post that he slipped and almost fell over because the road hadn't been cleared. But there isn't much sympathy from Mr Albin, a member of the city's development and maintenance committees, who describes dependence on government services as "the disease of modern Russian society". People expect help to "do their dishes, maintain the yard, raise their children, protect them from foreign aggressors, and put things in order in their country and their home", he says. Mr Albin suggests that instead of watching television, people should grab a shovel and get digging, adding that physical activity is "good for one's health and helps to order one's thoughts".
