Sure. According to the info offered by the Romanian Army, the scenario seen in these pics was this:

The British units executed delay maneuvers backed by a plutoon of Romanian TR-85M1 tanks, while elements of the 300th Mech Inf Battalion were the OPFOR executing an offensive on MLI-84M IFVs.

The goal of the exercise is to strengthen cohesion and teamwork between NATO allies, perfect skills in executing defensive and offensive maneuvers.

-1,000 soldiers taking part in it
-400 vehicles

It's for the first time in the last 5 years that Romanian and British soldiers train/exercise together.

More photos and details will probably surface in the following period and I'll post them here.

Cheers

MLI-84

A wee link to the MLI-84 and a pick too.
I think it is great that the Romanian army and industry could improve the old Russian BMPs.
Q. Do you happen to know if any British FV 510 Warriors being used?

The MoD communique implies that the vehicles involved in the exercise belong to the Romanian units participating in it, without mentioning whether there might be some British IFVs too.

NATO WEBsite

A wee link to NATOs website Romania is on it, but no mention of Express & Platinum Lynx 2014.
http://www.nato.int/nato-on-duty/index.html

Strange. They have mentioned Poland in NATO Response Force
This is the indepth link
http://www.nato.int/cps/en/natolive/topics_49755.htm

At their Wales Summit in September 2014, Allies agreed to create a spearhead within the NRF a Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF).

Q.Do you think this is an arm of NATO Response Force?

I don't know if it is, but I guess unless/until Western IFVs and tanks are pre-positioned in Poland, the Baltics and Romania I imagine a rapid response force would consist of light infantry units working alongside local forces (IFVs, tanks, AA, artillery) and enjoying NATO air cover until the heavier NATO units get in theater. This exercise seems to point to such a scenario. Its location is also interesting. Galati, close to the border with Ukraine.

Found more pics on the British unit's facebook page:

Galați

Yeh the proximity to Ukraine is close, bet you can see Sevastopol on a clear day from the coast.

Moldova is classed by NATO as:-
  • Partnership for Peace partners.
  • Troop-contributing partners.
  • Sharing knowledge with partners.
Ukraine has the same status.

Yeh they are definitely sending a message to Russia.

NATO frequently doesn't post a story until the exercise has wrapped up and the press photos selected for distribution. Don't know why.

Sounds like they want to show it in the best light. To show it was a success.
Also sound like a hint of propaganda too.
