I think the automobile has more flexibility. I think the airplane is far cheaper and almost as fast. Building a hyperloop means spending tens, if not hundreds, of billions on a tube system, mostly buried, in vacuum that has to be maintained using a very complex system, along with the other infrastructure, that will never be able to recoup the cost of construction.
The best idea isn't always the most practical or cost effective one.
