Video of US Route 2 - which goes from Washington to Maine, but interrupted by Canada - around 7:20 to 7:33 Lake Champlain area, NY and VT ("my" Route 2) - 7:31 seems to be sandbar, leaving South Hero,VT entering Milton, VT

Route 2 is the route I sometimes go to get to Montreal, from Fredericton NB. Houlton (the start not the finish) is an hour away. The route after Skowhegan is sometimes called the "roller coaster" route to Ontario.

Sparlingo, do you take Route 2 through the Lake Champlain Islands or do you pick up 89 near Burlington? My mother was born in North Hero. I guess Route 2 through the islands was a major road before the interstate, but the New York side of the lake (Route 9) of course always carried more traffic to and from Montreal.

I think one day probably thirty years ago I drove about 30 miles east on 2 from Burlington - I remember I didn't find it that interesting.

I have spent time on Route two in NH, around the amusement parks/vacation areas.

Hey lake Champlainer. Last couple of times to Montreal we caught route 2 after Bangor Maine and left it and went north going past Surgarloaf towards Sherbrooke.

When we went the "American Route" from Ontario to New Brunswick as kids (I'm 52 now and it's probably been since I was 10) I think we got on route 2 at Rouses Point and going through the Islands and then following through until we got to Bangor and went North on I95. There were always lots of choices and I don't think anyone ever knew the best route. Once the Canadian route got twined then the American route never got used much anymore going Ontario to New Brunswick.

Incidentally there was speculative hypothetical agitation for a Canadian "corridor highway" through the United States in the event of Quebec Separation and the deal would be that Canada would make the Alaska highway a "Corridor highway" from Washington to Alaska in return for a New Brunswick to Ontario Highway built by Canada through the United States. "Corridor" meaning no customs through the two highways. Problem is do you go through Lake Champlain by building a bridge over it, through the Lake Champlain islands, or south of it to avoid the lake?

Cheers

My sister interned there for a time. The Murder & Mayhem walking tour was a real treat.
