One of Marvin's scariest roles was one of his dual roles in "Cat Ballou"........the evil brother with the silver nose. It won him an Oscar.

Lee Marvin as Liberty Vallence. He was pure evil. That is one of my favorite movies of all time.

Strother Martin and Lee Van Cleef as his henchmen were pretty good too! I may have to rethink my choice of Jack Palance in Shane.

Marvin's character Crow in "The Commancheros" was no sweetheart either.

Richard Boone as the head kidnapper in "Big Jake" was a great opponent for John Wayne. One of my favorite movie lines......

"If anything happens to that box, the boy dies. We're not givin' ya a second chance. Your fault, my fault, nobody's fault.......the boy dies. Do you understand me!"

Then of course Wayne gets him to paraphrase the line right before he kills him.

"Mister, what IS your name?"

"Jacob McCandless"

"I thought you was dead"

Gene Hackman in "Unforgiven" and "The Quick and the Dead" was a pretty nasty S.O.B. too...............

For more recent westerns.....Michael Gambon in "Open Range", when I saw this movie the audience cheered when he got shot. That must say something........

Wink How about Robert Duvall?

In "Joe Kidd", another 'Eastwood Western' with a moral, R.D.'s character(as the ranch-hand become Ranch Owner), with the scruples of a 'side-winder' and the disposition to match! He tries to 'con' Clint's character into joining up with him on a 'deer hunt' but 'Joe' knows just what he's going after. Don Stroud was pretty decent even as a 'bit player' in this as well, and he seemed to appear in lots of Eastwood productions. How many folks remember the "Rawhide" Chuck-wagon Cook in "High Plains Drifter" as the 'Barkeep' in that? One thing I will give Clint, he was wont to have veteran 'bit' Actors from previous movies in his own, such as Royal Dano, and the Actor in "Josie Wales" that had the 'Injun Slave Girl'(I don't recall his name), even 'Uncle Leo' from "Seinfeld"! as well as many others.
