Anyone who spent time in Germany was well aware of the slang motto "fight like hell for 3 days then blow up the world" I've used it in other posts about discussions covering NATO's (in)ability to stop a conventional (non-nuclear/limited nuclear) WP attack. It wasn't public knowledge but it was accepted "dogma" amongst the Canadian brigade.

"Reforger" was considered a bad joke as the airbases would be a poisoned NBC soup as would all the communication nodes, concentration points, etc. Thanksfully we now know the Soviets were more worried about a NATO attack (our forward deployment) than attacking themselves.

Indeed which NATO wasn't going to do so in hindsight one gets the impression that we all spent 50 years staring at each other across a wall for reasons that weren't entirely true...

Ain't propaganda a wonderful thing? It allows governments to reinforce their policies and further their aims without having their people realize that it's all lies and deceit.
