By "Aztec, Inca", of course I also include the Toltecs and all of the other pre-European civilizations of the Western Hemisphere.

Do we want include pre-European-era North American indians (Mound Builders), etc.? I consider them distinct, primarily for cultural reasons. Opinions please.

Following the posting a thread on ancient Egyptians, I added them and Ancient Israelites to the poll.

I've got some photos which I took at the Coba archeological site in Mexico. I could scan them and post them if you would like.

THE STATE OF THE ANCIENT ERA IN ACG

Thanks for participating in the poll and for your discussion of this era of warfare.

Interest in this era is easy to summarize: Romans. While there is interest in other parts of the ancient era, they ran away with the poll.

So now we know where our collective interests lie, lets get out there and learn something!

Choices...choices...choices!

My, my, my--I like them all!

Honestly, I had to pick the Byzantines out of all of these. Amazing how long they lasted, due to some very clever political/military efforts. Worth a lot of study. I don't know nearly enough about them.

But hey...I could read stuff on all these periods/players...

Byzantines! Sounds good to me. I'll see what I can find...but just a heads up that it will be in medieval subforum, not this one. I see this one ending with the fall of Rome, which is really where Byzantium took off! I guess I ought to post the scope of each subforum on a sticky. I'll do that today.

I agree. I like the roman military machine, as it showed a lot of discipline and innovation. However, If I had known earlier that we could vot for more than one, I would have voted for the Incas and Aztecs as well.

I've always been interested in the Romans, but as I've grown older I've developed an interest in Greek naval history & have an interest in learning more of the ancient native continental Americans, as well.
