Updates on the Syrian Rebellion

The US- general of staff Martin Dempsey considers a military intervention to Syria by US-forces, because of the brutal massaker made by the Syrian military troops against the civil population in Tripolis. 110 persons were killed, among them also children. US troops are makeing already a military exercise together with the local forces in Jordan, which state borders to Syria. On the photo a UNO-soldier shows by his hand to corpses of children.

I think that the US would do better by not sending troops to Syria at this time...anyone agree?

From what I read, it was mostly women and children.

Not me. If ever there was a regime screaming for a forced change, this is it. Invade those bastards, and set them straight! This is not how to treat women and children.

Strikes me the American people have probably had enough of interventions and conflict for a while... Washington may thus turn a blind eye no matter the humanitarian tragedy.

Maybe it's because the previous interventions were misguided.

It's undeniable that what's going on it Syria is criminal and immoral. It's not like looking for WMDs or trying to stop Communism from spreading - it's a legitimate humanitarian concern.

Or am I grossly misreading the situation?

You're probably quite right about the misguidedness, and I can see why it would put people off; no one in the US wants another Iraq, and look how popular the Afghan campaign is on this forum for example; remember that was also partly a humanitarian one, to remove the Talibs from power and end up 'nation building' and giving the Ghaners some (in theory) real government. May have a simmilar hard time in Syria.

I know what you're saying though; from our POV it looks like maybe Libya? that was a major humanitarian concern with women and children being shelled in their homes..As for accuracy of the sitation, you seem to be correct and I'd agree with you based on what we see- maybe there's more to it but we might not know till after it's happened..if that makes sense?

French President Francois Hollande said military intervention to end the crisis in Syria could not be ruled out if it was backed by the UN Security Council.

"It is not possible to allow Bashar al-Assad's regime to massacre its own people," he told France 2 TV.

"Military intervention is not excluded provided it is carried out under the auspices of international law, namely via a Security Council resolution."

IMO, the UK and France hit on a good path in Libya, which the US could implement here, by enforcing peace via the air force and SF units.

Let the Arab League deal with Syria, if all they can do is cat call from the sidelines then that's it. I'm dang tired of the US being expected to be the world's cop and of Washington going along with the idea. I think now it'd cause a political crisis in Washington and the Democrats sure don't want that. Mainstream people in the US are tired of being involved in combat and of spending money they don't have.

Yes, Syrian regime is the criminal one and has to be changed.
Question is who is going to do it.

But, the situation with the massacre may not be so black-white
as it looks like.
Rebels could implement the same tactics Arabs perfected on
Israel Army in Gaza and Lebanon :
Launch an attack from civilian populated area,
cause army retaliation strike against that area and
than blame authorities in cruelty, inhumanity and war crimes.

Thats all you guys (USA) needs is another war...your last two has almost bankrupted you.........Assuming you do go storming into Syria...who do you deal with the establish a sane government....you have a whole bunch of differant sects all fighting for control...and please do not use the "democracy" word.....all these guys wouldnt know "democracy" if it stood up and bit them in the arse......all their various countries have been run by some form of dictatorship since they were founded.

What is happening is a travesty in human life but the US cannot be the worlds policeman....how about their Arab brothers get involved to sort out the mess, or is that asking to much...??

Sad to say but this is another bunch who are not worth your young men/women dying for..

Black September in Jordan...

September 1970 is known as the Black September (Arabic: أيلول الأسود‎ aylūl al-aswad) in Arab history and sometimes is referred to as the "era of regrettable events." It was a month when Hashemite King Hussein of Jordan moved to quash the militancy of Palestinian organizations and restore his monarchy's rule over the country.[3] The violence resulted in the deaths of thousands of people, the vast majority Palestinian.[1] Armed conflict lasted until July 1971 with the expulsion of the Palestine Liberation Organisation and thousands of Palestinian fighters to Lebanon.

Now we didn't make a fuss over this did we...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the majority of those Palestinians that were kicked out of Jordan were not Jordanian were they ?

As far as I know, they were considered "guests" of the Jordanian government until their actions put too much pressure on the Jordanians.
