I think Iran is using the Korean strategy. My own personal opinion is that our founding fathers did not envision weapons that we couldn't own. Period.

If we can't have atomic weapons, neither should the government.

Even if Iran gets a weapon, perhaps the better strategy would be to invite them to a parade. Have cocktails with them. Then tell them the rules! My feeling is judging from the response of their own people rising up in protest, they want them to be used on them, if they want them at all. I am still not sure they want them. They may just have a nuclear power program, as they and the Russians claim.

Neither of these nations' nuclear programs is a current threat to the United States- at least not in the strict sense of the term. We are well able to handle one or two missiles being launched at us; and that assumes that the missiles work as advertised. People should understand that there is a difference between a theoretical threat and a viable one. The last viable threat that we had was the Soviet Union, and even that was a conditional one. This is just the same old crap that's taken place throughout history; a nation's armed forces require- at the very least- an opponent to justify the expenditure involved in their creation and maintenance. Solution: politics creates that opponent. In this case, it's a combination of U.S., Iranian, and Israeli politics- with occasional tidbits from other nations. What we're really doing is playing with matches.

I think the fact that Kim Jong Un recently fed his uncle and 5 others to starving dogs, shows that North Korea is very unstable right now. I think we are approaching the end game here, with regards to the Kim Dynasty. God knows what Kim and his associates might try to stay in power/stay alive.

The article below in nbc.com says that there is apparently a struggle going on in China as to whether China should distance itself from North Korea.

Kim Jone Un's uncle Jang Song Thaek is dragged into court by uniformed personnel prior to last month's execution.

Sgt.

Are you certain of that? How about this for a scenario: a merchant ship is cursing along the trade route to New Orleans when it suddenly launches 3 missiles one heads towards the West coast one to the Central plains and the last to the East coast. Well above the point of doing damage to the cities below they detonate releasing a massive EMP and sending the whole continental U.S. back to the 1860ís without the equipment to survive then. Within a month 200,000,000 have died from hunger, thirst or exposure. Within a year another 40-70 million have joined them.
Of course the ship that launched the missiles was sunk and all aboard killed but that hardly makes up for it.

I would say at this point the Iran program is a much clearer threat to the US. They are I would say getting stronger, or at the very least weaker. I would say the North Koreans have gotten weaker over the last 4 or 5 years, as their lack or resources and their lack of sane leadership can only make them weaker as time goes on. Granted, these same conditions would tend to make them crazier, but I think they are starting to wind down.

The Iranian threat to the US I would say has increased. I would categorize the threat at this point as an indirect one - the Iranian threat to Israel has only increased. This increases the chance of a conflict in the Mideast.

Agreed and this still holds true today. Neither country poses a direct threat to the United States.

At this point, it seems to me it's even clearer that North Korea is the bigger threat.

Perhaps for the moment. Interesting how much it seems both have been working together on missile and nuke programs.
