War of 1812 uniform, equipment and flag info

after the help given when I asked about the dutch a while back I'm doing it again now asking about uniforms for the Americans and british/canadians during the war of 1812.

now I assume that for the brits and canadians its mostly going to be british red with white/cream straps and white/grey/cream/brown etc trousers, but I have some some alternatives for canadian militia like this

and want to know more since painting alternatives are always fun

American uniforms seem to somestimes have a very similar if not the same style of uniform as what the british wear from the few pictures I've found, is this correct (or at least close enough for 28mm wargaming which is what this info is for later) including for flank companies if they had any and artillery crews which seem to look like the same uniform as the brits as well.

equipment wise this seems to be quite varied but I wanna concentrate on just what cannons they used, I've seen pics of americans with french cannons and british guns and others, is this correct or did they only ever have 1 style?

flags, is there anywhere to view the sorts of flags used in that period, or regimental badges so I can make my own and what sort of country flag they used back in 1812 or what various designs (in a sort of wargaming version so they can be printed out).

The US infantry wore uniforms which were nearly identical in style to the British with the exception that the colour was in general dark blue.

The US army still had pikemen? How cool is that?
Great info by the way Dibble. I just spotted one mistake. In post 7 the fifth picture from the top. 2 should be 3 and 3 should be 2.

Pike's were introduced and carried by the third rank of that particular regiment. The regimental commander was Zebulon Pike (no, that's not a pun). By all accounts it was a well-disciplined and well-led regiment. The pikemen carried shortened musket and swords, but not bayonets.

As a footnote, the Stars and Stripes were not carried in the field as part of the two-flag infantry regimental colors.

Sincerely,
M

Very nice pics and info about the soldiers. Where did you get them from? I'm very interested in 18th and 19th century history.
