Warning huge, but lovely B-25 image
B-17F, the prettiest of the B-17s.

Heck even the flying dump trucks (B-25, B-17, Lancaster) all had a beauty about them!

+1 for the F4U Corsair. Even now, seeing and hearing one or more in flight on a documentary gives me a thrill. Your description is right on.
On the other hand, I find its contemporary, the F6F Hellcat one of the least attractive fighters ever.
