What an excellent example, Sal!

That said...as you suspect the UK dumpings are well known, I also assume US dumpings has been no secret.
It is a troubling subject and should be discussed.

No probs mate. The real issue of dumping to be honest isn't the chemical weapons, they are the nastiest side of it but not possibly the worst. The worst is probably the ordnance bombs shells etc dumped at the end of both wars. Certainly in the Irish sea there is a problem with incendiary bombs dumped immediately post war wear the casings have corroded away and scattered the phosphorus contents over the sea bed.
To be honest I can understand the urge to get rid of the weapons as quickly as possible. Europe was littered with abandoned supply dumps allied and german through the forties there are regular explosions in them due to mishandling and neglect the quick and cheap option was in the nearest bit of deep water. There also wasn't the understanding of deep ocean currents, some of the deeper spots in the Irish sea and channel are deep because they are regularly scoured by currents, anything you dump their is going to be washed up again.

I am fairly sure NBE-1 followed Megan Fox home disguised as a school bus.

I have no qualms about the US doing this, after all, we're trying to stop the rise of some great ancient evil.

Chemical weapons are a major problem. The ex-Soviet stockpile is huge. Plus the stuff is inclined toweards instability and attacking its own containers when the shelf life expired.
Back in 1980 I was part of a security detail on a couple tons of 1920s era mustard gas rounds (Stokes mortar, IIRC) that had been in storage. They were mislabeled, and had been sitting in a dump for decades.
The Chemical Warfare types were running around discussing corrosion rates and such.
Those were dumped in the Gulf of Mexico, I'm guessing, because they were shipped to Fort Polk, for sea disposal. Now I suppose they would burn it. Either way, its very nasty stuff., and the amounts manufactured is amazing.

Its not chemical, but how many nuclear reactors and reactor cores are laying at the bottom of the Kara Sea? At least 3-4 that they will publicly acknowledge, from old icebreakers to submarine reactors as well. It's Radiation people, and that stuff tends to stick around a pretty long time.
Didnt Russia have an island, where they had a facility for making chemical weapons?
