The Old Philippine Communist Party (PKP)

The New Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army was a splinter group which cut its ties with the old Partido Komunista ng Pilipinas which abandoned armed struggle in favour of parliamentary struggle. The late President Marcos was able to win them (PKP) over to his side as staunch supporters of his administration. These old communist appartchiks are the mature types who knew that armed struggle was such senseless strife which would only cost tens to hundreds of thousands of lost lives. They themselves admitted that "communism does not work", that the incumbent Chairman is "not in touch with reality", in addition to the fact that the Communist Party of Jose Maria Sison is tagged as a terrrorist group. These old apparatchiks are men whose wisdom cannot be taken for granted. They are experts on Marxism-Leninism-Stalinism. How can a President hated by these minority group of CPP-NPA came to win the communists to his side. President Marcos, indeed must be loved by the populace if he can win this Party which represents the poor, to his side.
