Largest Civilian Caliber Round

Another question from my son. What is the largest caliber round, permitted by federal law, that a civilian may possess?

I am guessing in the .50 cal range, such as used in black powder rifles and smooth bores.
Retreat hell, we just got here. Every Marine, a rifleman.

Never let the facts get in the way of the truth.
