There was also a Russian series of Osprey type magazines that had this data in bot English and Cyrillic.
In theatres where resupply was difficult and opposition product better than no product, there was considerable use of the enemy's AFVs. While Germany was by far the greatest user of captured kit, the USSR was quite happy to turn captured and recovered kit back on the former owner, as were the British in North Africa. The Soviets had a pick preference as well: early on it was the Pz III, StuG III and Pz IV. Later, once most of the bugs had been ironed out, the Panther was acceptable.

Finnish troops and German security/anti-partisan troops used a great many captured DP LMG's and PPSH's.

Even the Red army has it's standards, eh?

I wonder how many German tanks wound up buried in concrete up to the turrets on the USSR/Chinese border?

That is what they did with old heavy tanks that were worn out. The Germans had a portable pill box that they would dig a hole for and place the box in the hole. Then they placed a Panther turret on top! These worked very well in Italy. The Germans probably did it on the Eastern Front as well. Sometimes the Germans just dug a hole, drove in a tank and left the turret showing. These were hard to hit!

More than welcome! BTW the armor rules I am working on run to over 110 pages of just vehicles, guns and artillery!

They used both the KV I and II. Matter of fact, for the proposed Italian C3 operation (the invasion of Malta) the Germans actually modified some of their MFP lighters to carry the KV II. Wonder how the Brits would have dealt with that monstrosity? the bloody Huns have WHAT?????

The British had some tanks on Malta. I remember them from some war games I played. I think they were Matilda II's. I wonder if the turret on a KV II could turn fast enough to track a Matilda?

lol: would be interesting considering how slow both were! Don't think the Brits had anything capable of stopping them, did they?

Tom Clancy wrote about a Chinese assault on the Russian border, in The Dragon and the Bear. He mentioned old KV turrets, used as Dummy positions ahead of where the bunker turrets that were in use were placed.

It was posted on an alternate forum, that in Syria, a cache of about 5,000 STG44's were found with over 250k in ammo as well. All in very good shape! Est valu per piece for these rifles is about 25-30k in US dollars. They could have a trainload of AK-47's for that price! Amazing find, and troops were using them!!!

The fact that they are using them is probably going to drive the value UP, since who wouldn't want to buy a WWII assault rifle that was used in a 21st century revolution?

I would love own one, but thats WAAAY too pricey. Did find an MP40 when I was in Norway someyears back. Place also yielded an English/Norwegian dictionary...apparently the place had been used by everyone as an overnight or garrison quarters
