Yeah maybe Don got advice from Mattis but didn't like it.
Between you and me I'm not too impressed with Mattis as Sec of Defence from what I've seen so far, although I could be wrong.
He seems just a little bit tired as if he didn't want to be called out of retirement to do the job. And according to Wiki he used to insist that his troops be given classes on understanding the culture of people whose countries they were deployed to, which seems a bit soft and pol-correct to me.
