For me it would be, GW. I'd also love to have met Nathaniel Greene, Benedict Arnold (and Peggy, too), Daniel Morgan, Patrick Ferguson, Charles Cornwallis, Hugh Mercer, Henry Knox and Glover.

Finally, I'd like to have met Charles Lee and Horatio Gates, just to take them down a peg or two. I hate arrogance!

I'm developing a sneaking regard for Lt. Col. Francis Smith of Lexington and Concord fame, so I reckon I'd like to have a chat with him.

Ben Franklin and John Adams. Preferably at the same time! It would be incredible to talk policy, philosophy and ethics with these men.

I don't even pretend to think I could hold my own with them. But it would be fun to try!

Lt Colonel Allan Maclean. A loyal Scotish officer who fought against the Crown at Cullodan Moor, yet later threw in his lot with the British to form the only British Regular Regiment formed in the American Colonies, the 84th Regiment of Foot.

I think I'd have to agree with Torien here. That would be one heck of a conversation! I'd also like to meet George Washington, just to see what sort of man he really was, since what we usually get now is more marble statue than actual human being. Come to think of it, I'd like to meet all of the founding fathers for that very reason.

Greene's Lieutenants

I would like to have met and worked with Otho Holland Williams, Robert Kirkwood, William Washington, John Eager Howard, and Edward Carrington. Greene was an outstanding general officer, but these key subordinates were essential to his success in the southern campaigns.

Sincerely,
M

Baron Von Stueben- How hard was it to transform the Continentals into proper soldiers?

George Washington- Was there ever a point you thought of giving up?

John Adams- How hard was it defending the Boston Massacre soldiers?

Benedict Arnold- WTF?

George III- Any regrets?

Banastre Tarleton- Would you prefer a firing squad or hanging?

I'd like to meet Maj Pitcairn and ask who really fired the first shot at Lexington. That and he was also considered to be well respected man around Boston.

Also Henry Knox, he seems to be a guy you wanted to have a beer with.

So hard to choose, so many great answers but if I could only meet one, I would like to meet Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de La Fayette. I would prefer to meet him late in life, he participated in and surviced three revolution, was vice president of the Estate General and prepared one of the drafts of the Declarations of the Rights of Man and the Citizens and served in the French Chamber of Deputies from 1815 until his death in 1824. He was also a principal voice in arguing for French support of the American Revolution. After the taking of the Bastille, he sent the main gate key to George Washington as the only man in the world to be entrusted with it. ( It still hangs in the entrance hall at Mount Vernon.) He was also offered Governorship of Louisiana Territority by Jefferson after the purchase.

While the more obvious choices had more impact on the final for of the US. None let as full and fascinating a life.

Timothy Murphy, sniper with Morgan's Rifles at the Second Battle of Saratoga who reportedly shot Sir Francis Clerke and General Simon Fraser.

Was a survivor of Boyd's Massacre which occurred during Sullivan's Expedition against the Indians of Western NY.

Would ask if David Freemoyer (Freemyer) told the truth in his pension application.
