Question Does gravity exist?

Seems a silly question at first, but does it?

There is the gravitational constant of course. Or as my missus would say, a number added to make their sums work .

We fall, therefore gravity exists? Yes?

It's funny that the most powerful force in the universe (it bends light for Pete's sake) is unexplainable.

The strong force???
Gravity is weak and worthless says the nano-engineer. But we all take it for granted until it gets completely over-powered at the atomic level.

It is explainable. They said "it must exist, or else we are wrong." And to show they are not wrong, they invented an imaginary particle and called it the graviton. Nobody has ever seen it, touched it, weighed it or anything of the sort, but it must exist or else there is no gravity...Wait a second. Something is fishy here. I'm calling the school district to tell them to stop wasting school time on this "Theory of Gravity" and imaginary/invented particles.

It's well known at all 'everyday' levels, Freightshaker, or engineers wouldn't be able to do their jobs.

But at the very lowest level, the debate continues.

For instance, if "forces" are an exchange of particles between bodies (eg a photon between electromagnetic particles), then the experiment to confirm the analogous particle exchanged between two masses hasn't happened yet:

Oh, I experience gravity every time I take 80,000 lbs down a 6% grade.

It still doesn't explain how it occurs or why it is not a constant. I've always thought it interesting that on a mountainside, for example, gravity does not pull towards the center of the Earth but rather towards the densest part of the mountain. It's particularly interesting to note the differences between the Geoid and the Reference Ellipsoid.

That's due to gravity being a function of mass and distance...

Fg = G(M1*M2)/D-squared

Not entirely sure what you're driving at, here, FS.

If someone is suspended in the air beside a dense mountain and released, tthe hapless subject falls towards the ground, not the mountain.
