Detaille working on the Pantheon.

Salle Detaille at Musee de l'armee. When I first went there in 1976 it still looked like this. Anyone know if it still exists? You can see many of the paintings in this thread hung on the walls.

Same in 1957.

Compans posted this before, but I found a bigger copy.

Charge de cuirassiers en Russie, 1812 by Edouard Detaille

Btw Compans... Keep up the good work.

It's sad how it looks now, the paintings are gone and it's much more empty. They should return this part with Detaille's paintings...

There is now a special exposition called "De Louis XIV à Napoléon Ier" ..it's finally finished, when I was there last year, it was half empty and many show cases without exhibits. But it's worth a visit now, for sure! I saw there few paintings by Detaille. I wish my photo camera didn't take so shaky photos

Hmmm...I wonder what happened to the paintings. Some went to the Musee D'Orsay I think. I posted this in the 'Hall of Eagles' thread, but the combined effect was like a religious experience the first time I went. The museum was like a monument to French Napoleonic 'gloire'.

First painting on this page? That's called 'Vers la Gloire' - in The Pantheon in Paris.
