Apologies for the poor quality of this image but scanned and pieced together from the inside cover of a book. Who are the cavalry unit? Elite company of Chasseurs a Cheval or Horse Artillery?

It's hard to tell, Compans. I don't think it's horse artillery, but I can be wrong.

I think, because of the hint of horn turnback badges and the fringed epaulettes and of course the 'colpack' (busby) headdress, that they are a Line, Elite Chasseur a Cheval company.

General Brock has disabled reputation
I agree with Paul as you can also see the carbines they are
carrying and I don't think the Artillery arm carried these weapons
but had normal muskets.

Parquin's Regiment

The unit represented is the 20th Chasseurs a Cheval and was used to illustrate Parquin's memoirs. I believe it is by de Myrbach.

French horse artillery carried pistols and sabers, but there is evidence that they had at least enough mousqueton's (carbines) for guard duty. Train personnel as well as various cavalry types, were also issued this weapon.

French foot artillery did carry muskets, but they were the dragoon musket which was issued to foot artillery, dragoons, and voltigeurs, which was a little shorter than the regulation musket or fusil d'infanterie.

Sincerely,
M

Thanks M. I'll check and see if it's by Myrbach. If so I'll regretfully remove it. Bloody nice drawing.

Myrbach

I'd keep it on. It is excellent. Many of the illustrations in the large edition of Parquin'g memoirs are done by de Myrbach and some are in color. They are all taken from episodes in the text.

Sincerely,
M

Hmmm...I'll have to look for that. Not read his memoirs for many, many years.

Here are one or two that may be of interest. I have tidied them up a bit, borders, foreign marks and repaired tears etc, but I have not done it as an intrusion to the great mans work.
