Battle of the Pyrenees, an allied victory after a series of engagements, which began in late July 1813, comprising Maya, Roncesvalles and Sorauren, allied forces under Wellington held off marshal Soult's French forces attempting to relieve Pamplona and San Sebastian, 25 Jul - 2 Aug 1813.

Battle of Talavera, Arthur Wellesley's forces defeat a French force under Victor. After the battle Wellesley was created Viscount Wellington of Talavera, 28 Jul 1809.

British Expeditionary Force lands at Walcheren under Lord Chatham, 28 Jul 1809.

Action at Vitebsk, Napoleon defeats a Russian force under Barclay de Tolly, 28 Jul 1812.

Battle of the Nile, decisive British victory, fought at night, a British squadron lead by Rear-Adm Nelson defeat a French fleet under the command of François-Paul Brueys D'Aigalliers, 1 Aug 1798.

Battle of Novi, fought between the Austro-Russians under Suvarov and the French under Joubert, resulting in a victory for Suvarov, 15 Aug 1799.

Ahmednuggur in India, taken by an escalade assault, Arthur Wellesley leading company troops from Mysore, sepoy infantry battalions of the Madras Native Infantry and three squadrons of Madras Native Cavalry, plus a contingent of troops supplied by the British Army, which included cavalry from the 19th Light Dragoons and two battalions of Scottish infantry from the 74th and 78th Regiment of Foot. Irregular light cavalry were also provided by the Company's Mysore and Maratha allies, 11 Aug 1803.

1st Battle of Pirna, a Russian victory under Wittgenstein over the French led by St Cyr, 22 Aug 1813.

Battle of Grossbeeren, Crown Prince Charles John in command of Allied troops defeat the French under Nicolas Oudinot, 23 Aug 1813.

Battle of Amberg, Bavaria, resulted in an Austrian victory by Archduke Charles over a French army led by Jean-Baptiste Jourdan, 24 Aug 1796.

Battle of Friedberg, was one of the last major successes during General Moreau's campaign in southern Germany in the summer of 1796, and forced the Austrians under General Latour to abandon the line of the River Lech, 24 Aug 1796.

Almeida, Portugal is devastated by a huge explosion as the magazine blows up. The town which has been under siege since July, surrenders to the French the next day, 26 Aug 1810.

Battle of Dresden, French victory under Napoleon against forces of the Sixth Coalition of Austrians, Russians and Prussians under Field Marshal Schwartzenberg, 26/27 Aug 1813.

The British fleet under Admiral Gambier begin the bombardment of the city of Copenhagen, 2/5 Sept 1807.

Battle of Würzburg, was the biggest victory won by the Archduke Charles in his successful campaign against the French invasion of Germany in 1796, and prevented general Jourdan from making a stand at any significant distance to the east of the Rhine, 3 Sept 1796.

Battle of Roveredo, in the upper Adige River valley in northern Italy, the French commanded by Napoleon defeated an Austrian corps led by Paul Davidovich, 4 Sept 1796.

Battle of Collooney, occurred during the Irish Rebellion of 1798 when a combined force of French troops and Irish rebels under Humbert defeated a force of British troops under Charles Vereker outside of Collooney near Sligo Town. It is also known as the Battle of Carricknagat, 5 Sept 1798.

The Vlieter incident, was the surrender without a fight of a squadron of the navy of the Batavian Republic, commanded by Rear-Admiral Samuel Story, during the Anglo-Russian Invasion of Holland to the British navy on a sandbank near the Channel known as De Vlieter, near Wieringen, 30 Aug 1799.

Convention of Cintra, By this agreement, the defeated French after the battle of Vimiero were allowed to evacuate their troops from Portugal without further conflict, aboard Royal Naval ships, with all their equipment and 'personal property' (which was mostly looted Portuguese valuables) The Convention was signed at the Palace of Queluz, in Queluz-Sintra, Estremadura. The British commanders Burrard, Dalrymple, Wellesley are recalled home to face an official inquiry in November, 30 Aug 1808.

Juno, one of the largest main belt asteroids, is discovered by German astronomer Karl Ludwig Harding, 1 Sept 1804.

The September Massacres of the French Revolution, rampaging mobs slaughter three Roman Catholic Church bishops, more than two hundred priests, and prisoners believed to be royalist sympathizers, 2/7 Sept 1792.

French forces under the command of Jacques-Francois Menou in Alexandria, Egypt surrender to the British under John Hely-Hutchinson, 2 Sept 1801.

Coup of 18 fructidor an V, was a seizure of power under the Directory, The three Directors, Barras, Rewbell and La Révellière-Lépeaux, staged a coup d'État supported by the military against the moderates and the royalists who had a majority in the two chambers, the Council of Five Hundred and the Council of Ancients, 4 Sept 1797.

Conscription is made mandatory in France by the Jourdan law, 5 Sept 1798.

Battle of Dennewitz, in the Prussian province of Brandenburg, near Jüterbog, between the French army under Ney and Oudinot and an army of Prussians, Russians and Swedes under Crown Prince Charles John (Bernadotte) and Friedrich Wilhelm Freiherr von Bülow, resulting in a Coalition victory, 6 Sept 1813.

Battle of Borodino, the largest and bloodiest single-day action of the French invasion of Russia, involving more than 250,000 troops and resulting in at least 70,000 casualties, 7 Sept 1812.

Battle of Bassano, in the territory of the Republic of Venice, between the French under Napoleon and Austrian forces led by Count Dagobert von Wurmser. The battle ended in a French victory. The Austrians abandoned their artillery and baggage, losing supplies, cannons, and battle standards to the French, 8 Sept 1796.

Battle of Ballinamuck, in County Longford, saw the defeat of the main force of the French incursion during the 1798 Rebellion in Ireland, the Irish and French under Humbert against British forces under Cornwallis, 8 Sept 1798.

Copenhagen shelled on the night of 4 September


Events
Danish capitulation following the bombardment of Copenhagen. In the following weeks the Danish fleet was rigged and made ready for sea under British supervision. On October 21st 1807, it left Copenhagen for Britain. The fleet thereby lost by the Danes was of significant value for Denmark as a sea-trading nation. The captured fleet comprised 18 ships of the line, 15 frigates, 7 brigs, 23 gunboats, 7 barges and 1 schooner together with enormous amounts of naval related equipment,
5/7 Sept 1807.

France annexed the Kingdom of Piedmont, 11 Sept 1802.

Battle of Menin, was a second victory in five days for the French army of General Houchard, and saw the French defeat the Dutch army under William V, prince of Orange, briefly knocking them out of the war, 13 Sept 1793.

Finnish War: Battle of Jutas, Swedish forces under Lieutenant General Georg Carl von Döbeln beat the Russians under Kosatchoffskij, 13 Sept 1808.

Finnish War: Battle of Oravais, a Russian victory under Nikolay Mikhailovich Kamensky against Swedish forces under Carl Johan Adlercreutz, 14 Sept 1808.

The siege of Toulon began, Toulon was occupied by British and Spanish forces assisting the Royalist French. Napoleon Bonaparte first made his name here as a young captain of artillery. The siege would last until the 18 Dec, 18 Sept 1793.

Battle of Bergen-op-Zoom (1st battle), French under Brune defeat the Anglo-Russians under the Duke of York, 19 Sept 1799.

Anglo-Portuguese troops under Wellington begin the siege of Burgos, 19 Sept 1812.

Valmy

Battle of Valmy, Northern France, a French victory by forces under the command of Charles François Dumouriez against an Austrian/Prussian force under Brunswick. Valmy has been considered one of the most significant battles of the French Revolutionary Wars, as it allowed the survival of France's new armies and launched a period of renewed military strength that was to last nearly a quarter of a century, 20 Sept 1792.

Battle of Killala, County Mayo, an engagement during the Irish Rebellion of 1798. Between forces of the British Crown under Trench and a combined force of Irish Rebels and a small number of French troops, resulting in a British victory, 23 Sept 1798.

Battle of Assaye, Western India, a major battle of the Second Anglo-Maratha War fought between the Maratha Confederacy and the British East India Company. A British victory by forces led by Arthur Wellesley, 23 Sept 1803.

Battle of Zürich (2nd battle), a French victory led by André Masséna over an Austrian and Russian force under Alexander Korsakov, near Zürich. It broke the stalemate that had resulted from the First Battle of Zürich three months earlier and led to the withdrawal of Russia from the Second Coalition, 25/26 Sept 1799.
