THAT was a truly memorable, historical re-enactment event of a battle that never happened!!

It seems there are 200-300 members of the group claiming responsibility for the apparent cancellation. It is anticipated that there would be more French-Canadians participating in the event than protesting it, but I guess offending anyone in any way possible is the bigger concern.

That's alright. The event that the Canadian Government sponsored in the late 80's had thousands of costumed re-enactors of every shape and bent. They treated us like royalty, feeding us from Canadian Military Forces Kitchens, while showering us with wonderful add-on perks. IE. the beer was cheap and plentyful both in the camps and in the pubs. That's where I discovered my abiding love of good, British Ale..

Well, it seems that the 200-300 people in Quebec who are having trouble accepting that the French lost a war 250 years ago have managed to win this time.

The Quebec event has been cancelled.

Looks like I will miss out on that British ale.

Maybe we can stage it in New York? Pretend it's Canada? We could still drink the ale.

Far better to stage the event at Fort Niagara instead. Lots of room for the re-enactors to encamp and play. Besides, US microbrewed ale is far superior to anything that you're likely to ever find in Canada.

I like that idea.
Fort Niagara is also having a large event over the 4th of July weekend. It will be commemorating the 250th anniversary of the fall of the fort to the Brits.
I suppose the thin skinned french separatists will just have to accept that event since it is in the US.

According to the orgnizers of the event in Quebec, they felt that there was a threat of violence from the separatists.
The formal statement:

"The National Battlefield Commission
has decided, given the real and potential threats for violence against
participants and the public, to cancel the re-enactment portion of the
commemoration activities for the 250th anniversary of the siege of Quebec
and of the Battle of the Plains of Abraham."

At the end of seven years war, France lost all her colonies in North America the east part of mississippi river went to the British, the west part to the Spanish. In Canada the French Canadian were very badly treated by the British Autorities, In Acadia (which is the actual maritime provinces of Canada), they confiscated all their properties and deported them (the grand derangement). A lot of them died and some of them arrived in Louisiana after many years, they were acadians then cadians then Finally Cajuns. They are around 1.2 milllion of their descendant living in Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi. People from Quebec were considered as second class citizens (mainly because they were
catholics) and were treated Like british did with the Irish.
You may understand why some of them don't want to celebrate this battle
which cealed their fate for 200 years

And yet, there were more French Canadians who were going to participate than were objecting.
Since those who objected did not (seemingly) have much public support, they had to resort to threats of violence to get their way.

The event was not intended to honor the Brits, but rather the historical event and those who participated.
