I am surprised by the abdication of Pope Benedict XVI. But yet, he who was termed 'God's rotweiller', has clearly proved himself differently to the way he was perceived before being annointed. Church doctrines have been affirmed, perhaps a bit strict, but a lot of sorting out the problems have taken place since 2005.
Yours truely was very worried about Cardinal Ratzinger in the past year. He looked worn out, he is 85 and a Head of State. It is to his credit that he seeks to find a succesor while recognizing that in the modern world, the papacy can no longer be an isolated kingdom like in the Middle Ages. I was apprehensive about his appointment in 2005, He proved me mistaken.
