Corps do not always hand over their money on letterhead checks. A lot of corporate money comes in via small individual contributor category, even more by third party carriers (Lobbyists).

And no, both parties are not bought by wealthy interests. Here's how it works: the money is an end to a means. Most Americans who are eligible to vote, don't. Reagan was the last President to be elected by a majority of the eligible voters. Since then everyone is elected by a majority of a minority.

So the challenge to politicians is how to get their message to the minority who will actually cast a vote; this is incredibly tough, especially for Congress, because something around 20% of Americans know who their rep or senator is, and not all of those vote.

So: you have to get your message to a tiny group of voters. This is done by two methods:

1) Advertising, both mass market and individually-directed. Both cost money, lots of it.

2) Earning the support of lobbies who control votes. For example, the NRA have a membership in the millions, and whose membership has a very high percentage of voters. A Congressman who votes pro-gun will get favorable, and free, press in NRA periodicals, with emphasis on election years. The recent defeat of Obama's attack on the Bill of Rights in 2013 clearly shows the power of that lobby. The NRA is the strongest of these type lobbies, but there are hundreds of them across the nation.

Now, the GOP's strengths tend towards organization. We tend to draw more support from the vote-based lobbies and PACs than the DNP. The DNP has to make up the difference by spending more on marketing.

And so now you understand: the DNP sells itself for cash, while the GOP receives the support of honest Americans who have organized to make their presence felt.

The next class, we'll educate you about soft money, CoL contributions, and the basics of machine politics.
One of the funniest statements you've ever made. Thanks for the laugh.

The difference is that, with very few exceptions, Republicans don't wage a public jihad against the so-called fatcats while quietly hitting them up for campaign contributions.

The diabolical thing is that the Democrats gin up support from union thugs, Enviromarxists, greent@rds, libt@rds, dumb@$$ millennials, poverty pimps, race hustlers and freeloaders (the collective 47%) by waging that public jihad against wealth and success.
