Thanks for introducing us to "Mr Waterloo" and posting these links.
He's done amazing work and I have to keep reminding myself that these figures are 1/72 scale and barely 3/4 of an inch tall.

Was there a difference?

On another note;

I'm going to start building two battalions of the regiment irlandais in 28mm for a friend's table top army. The question is, was there any difference in the uniform between these battalions?

At the same time was there a consistant difference between the battalions of other French infantry regtiments? If not, how were these battalions identified in the field or on parade? By their flags and standards, maybe?

Any responce is worthwhile, thank you in advance.

Regards,
WCBT

I would have thought the uniforms would have been identical. Battalions would have been identified by fanions:

1st battalion: white
2nd battalion: scarlet
3rd battalion: imperial blue
4th battalion: yellow
5th battalion: sky blue

See attached (from I think a Napoleon Series Forum post).

However - see discussion re the Irish legion at http://lesapn.forumactif.fr/t2538-la-legion-irlandaise in particular david Davin's post:
battalion flags inscribed: NAPOLEON AU ... eme BATAILLON IRLANDAIS & on the other side: INDEPENDANCE DE L' IRLANDE.

You will see drawings at http://www.drapeaux.org/France/Empire_1/3_Etrangers.htm

A Short Nostalgic Tribute To “Airfix”: British Artillery

A Short Nostalgic Tribute To “Airfix”

Old-time lovers of Miniature Wargaming and Military Modelling, like myself, occasionally sit and contemplate our wonderful, innocent, “Glory Days” of a sometimes-misspent youth. A common companion to these very hazy, and sometimes quite dreamy, recollections, includes the very wonderful world of 1960’s or 1970’s “Airfix” – That amazing, brilliant, fantastic, plastic-injection-moulded wonder-material, used for the creation of many Tanks and Aeroplanes, Fighting Ships and Motorbikes, Gun-emplacements and Model Soldiers.

Indeed, the modelling company, “Airfix”, has probably created and provided almost everything every young boy (or even girl!) needed and required, to enhance their childhood, and helped to engage their very fertile imaginations – and it is in honour of that indispensable, and quite wonderful, contribution, that I have put together the following few POSTs:

If you liked these particular pictures of model painted “Airfix” Highlanders, more can be seen at the following website, which also makes quite an interesting curiosity, in its own right:

And there you all have it - A very small collection of “Airfix” Napoleonic Soldiery.

All the pictures have been taken from a variety of locations around the gigantic World Wide Web, and no doubt there were several thousands more I could have included!

Most of the Pictures of the Plastic Soldiers, came from that superb, and very valuable website, the “Plastic Soldier Review”, which I have mentioned before, on the ACG, on another Thread. However, such an inspirational and essential website deserves to be mentioned again, so I hope I can be forgiven for have done so here.

Members who haven’t heard of, or even seen, this incredible website, can access it via the following set of URLs:

Plastic Soldier Review:
http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Index.aspx
URL for “Airfix” Section:
http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/...List.aspx?id=3
URL for “Napoleonic Wars”:
http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/...aspx?period=22

They should also be made aware that it covers all sorts of eras and periods of history, not just the amazing Napoleonic!

And so to the “Airfix” Box-covers or Artwork:

As already mentioned, “Airfix” provided many different model soldiers, for many different time periods. So if you would like to reminisce and dream about World War Two British Commandos, or perhaps Robin Hood Yeomanry was more your thing, then here’s the link to some of their other, equally fascinating, and deserving, Model “Airfix” Figures:

http://www.seven-wonders.co.uk/airfix_ho00.html

I hope you will all enjoy………………..

Question

Hi,

But, if you've red some posts ago the diorama of waterloo, tells also of Scots Greys, box that for me is unknown.
Perhaps it was solded only in U.K.?
