The US invades Canada

A jingoistic United States invades Canada. Canada mobilizes its military and begins efforts to repel the invasion. The UK and other Commonwealth states only send material aid. Some parameters:

No nukes

The Canadians can call up the Primary Reserve regiments. Also, the RCMP are converted to a military role. (Just to make things interesting)

The Canadians can call in JTF 2 to launch deep strikes into the northern U.S.

The U.S starts the war as a limited operation, to gauge Canada's military strength before shifting to a more aggressive strategy.

The EU and NATO deliberate over the appropriate course of action.

Given the tiny Canadian military, not much of a contest.

Its hard to imagine a reason for such an invasion, though.

South Africa sends in the 5th Zulu division. Then the Americans raise a division of eithnic Mongolians. The epic battle destroys the world.

nder Ye olde Treaty:

Wales has to send a company of bowmen....to our aid..

So we’ll drink all together

To the grey goose-feather

And the land where the grey goose flew.

What of the mark?

Ah, seek it not in England,

A bold mark, our old mark

Is waiting over-sea.

When the strings harp in chorus,

And the lion flag is o’er us,

It is there that our mark will be.

What of the men?

The men were bred in England:

The bowmen—the yeomen,

The lads of dale and fell.

Here’s to you—and to you!

To the hearts that are true

And the land where the true hearts dwell.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

the white company

Ok I will entertain this. I know that the Canadians would lose, but they wouldn't make it easy. I don't count on the Canadians acting cruel as we were former allies, so a posture of civility will exist, not to mention that both sides will follow well defined rules of engagement. However, I am not too sure how well that will be when fighting militias and guerrillas.

So while Canada will eventually lose, I don't think they will without losses. The Canadians are technologically on par in quality of ground forces but lack significantly on sea and air. They will have to focus on their ground strength and exploit our weaknesses. To do this I would:

Activate all reserve units
Organize all federal, provincial, reservation and municipal police into centralized battalions and regiments.
Call up every able bodied man to be be trained to use a firearm and follow orders. Where its unfeasible to transport or train men from distant communities, organize militias to be attached to police forces.

Destroy all bridges and tunnels across:
Detroit river
Niagra river
Pigeon River
Rainy River
St. Clair River
Saint Croix River
Saint Francis River
Saint Lawrence River
St. Marys River

Blockade all land ports of entry
Destroy all cross border railroad tracks
Set explosives on all docks and all bridges leading into the interior
Set explosives on all tunnels and roads leading into mountain strongholds

All military units in:
Alberta concentrate in Calgary
British Columbia concentrate in Vancouver
Manitoba concentrate in Winnipeg
New Brunswick and Nova Scotia concentrate in Fredericton
Newfoundland and Labrador concentrate in St. John's
Ontario concentrate in Ottawa and Montreal
Quebec concentrate in Montreal and Quebec City
Saskatchewan concentrate in Regina and Winnipeg

Set up fall back bases in the mountains
Alberta to the Rocky Mountains
British Columbia to the Coast and Columbia Mountains
Manitoba to Baldy and Hart Mountains
New Brunswick to the Appalachian Mountains
Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador to the Torngat Mountains
Ontario to Maple Mountain and Ishpatina Ridge
Quebec to the Laurentian Mountains
Saskatchewan to the Cypress Hills or northern forests

Army helps the local police and militia units to coordinate defense of major cities. Their knowledge of the area will aid in the placing of effective countermeasures against American air and ground forces. Air force CF-18 Hornet's will work in teams of 2 dispersed across Canada to assist defense of major cities with coordination with the army. That means 51 pairs of CF-18's based at different airbases, airports and airfields to provide air cover. Fuel and munitions will be distributed accordingly. Artillery will be used to hit routes of approach used by American forces. 81mm mortar carriers will be attached to infantry and move frequently to prevent counter-battery fire. Put ATGM teams on top of high buildings. Let US vehicles move close and hit them at the closest range, with a focus on taking out the lead and tail vehicles. Get them trapped in a place where they cannot maneuver and pick them off one by one. A city, forest or mountains are great for this. Canada must avoid open terrain where US air will destroy them. Then also need to make it too costly for attack helicopters to operate. Use radar to only detect and then switch to a decoy radar system that puts out only enough power to attract American attention. As for the navy, they should move their submarines quickly to intercept any carrier groups coming their way. I suggest they group all their frigates and destroyers into one fleet on each ocean.

They could do one of two options. The Atlantic fleet should try to sail to destroy Naval Submarine Base New London. 7 Halifax-class frigates, 2 Iroquois-class destroyers (I'm pressing one deactivated 09/14 back into service), 1 Victoria class submarine, and 6 Kingston-class coastal defence vessels. Meanwhile the Pacific fleet goes for Naval Station Everett to attack the USN carrier strike group there. 5 Halifax-class frigates, 1 Iroquois-class destroyers (I'm pressing one deactivated 09/14 back into service), 3 Victoria class submarines, and 6 Kingston-class coastal defence vessels. The attack starts with submarines then ship launched helicopters, then land based CP-140's flying under the radar, and then finally destroyers, frigates and attack boats.

The other option is to go defensive and hide until a good opportunity presents itself. I'm assuming a carrier strike group on each coast will be stationed off the coast. Say both fleets sail north and hide deep in an arctic bay. Then once the carrier strike groups arrive, have the Canadian fleets sail out and try to attack after they have launched their strike aircraft. Who knows, the audacity might surprise them.

Apparently you have never dealt with the Canadian border guards. I would support an invasion just to get rid of them. :

Canada's primary problem apart from the obvious is that 90% of its population live within 100 miles or so of the US border if I'm not mistaken. Sure the Canadian military can retreat into some serious wilderness but then what can they fight back with ultimately as their industrial supply is under threat very quickly as its all based in the south and then again like the Romans at Hadrians Wall, why then keep going north?

In my experience at least over by the British Columbia crossings, the Canadians were generally very cordial. It was the US border guards who apart from some notable and fine exceptions were inordinately grumpy. One woman was outright horrible I'm afraid.

Sparlingo has a spectacular aura about [400]
Sparlingo has a spectacular aura about [400]
1-Canada blows all energy connections to the United States
2-It pulls it's army into the hills
3-It initiates guerilla war tactics
4-Sniper attacks repeatably occur as US troops attempt to patrol Toronto
5-French Canada rallies it's population to "LA Grande RESISTANCE" and things turn really nasty
6-US support for American aggression plummets
7-Anti-American Riots start in London and spread to Paris and then to all across Europe
8- Britain rallies and forces it's government to start making plans to support Canada and cut ties to the United States and Australia and New Zealand quickly follow and then Holland and Belgium join in, and France then spearheads European support
9- Anti-war Riots begin to occur in border cities; Boston, Detroit, Chicago and Seattle
10- American troops begin to refuse to cross into Canada as sniper action becomes serious and natives rally to the old colours and support for the war plummets
11- Through Air drops Canadian forces start receiving major supplies
and start contemplating a major counter offensive
12- American forces continue to suffer higher and higher local resistance, roadside bombs, and molotov cocktails, guerilla action which becomes increasingly toxic
13- Anti-war Riots spread to New York and Los Angeles
14- China and Russia join in with Europe in condemnation and start analyzing how they can start responding to Canadian military requests
15- An increasingly confident Canadian military conducts bolder and bolder raids against an increasingly demoralized American military
16- Eventually the US sues for peace with New England threatening succession, the US treasury bankrupt, some of their country occupied and suffering condemnation from world public opinion, sort of like what it was like in1814
17- Peace is settled in Ghent, Belguim, no territorial changes or gains of any kind.
