Stranger in a Strange Land might get them to look at their society from an outsider's POV.

After much weeping and gnashing of teeth, I settled on the problem: they haven't grown up with enough Sci-Fi to really know what they want to see. So, I created a graphic organizer to help them gather their ideas. They needed a little more. I made them presentations that highlight some of the best sci-fi communication and fashion trends.

I'm a little fried though, and keep thinking of the same movies. Has anyone got any pictures or videos for the following categories:

* Transportation
* Lifestyles/Quality of Life
* Family and Social Interactions (to include conception - no porn though )
* Shopping/Cooking/Domestic Chores
* Working Conditions

Thanks in advance!
If looking for reading material rather than visual/video/films, Heinlein's "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" would provide some of your list.

What I find even more interesting at times is what we have and where we are that doesn't seem to have been foreseen in Sci-Fi of the past few decades. Growth in use and capabilities of personal computers is one seldom forseen back in the mid-seventies when I was taking computer programing and "state of the art" was still based upon 80 column key-punch cards.

Star Trek's communicators of the original series are often tauted as forseeing our cell phones, but current touch-screen phones go far beyond the style and capability of the ST "communicators".

Meanwhile, flying cars remain a distant "pipe dream". And many futrure techs of Sci-Fi have fizzled, often in place of even better ideas seldom forseen.

Now, if you're looking for books I recommend this one:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mo...ss_and_the_Son

Kingsbury's book written at the end of the 70's presages the attack of the twin towers on 9/11, in a oblique way the rise of Islamic terrorism, and the resurgence of a Russian empire ala Putin, only more Imperial.

It's definitely worth a read.

E M Forster's The Machine Stops, 1909, anticipates many aspects of the Internet - some people just need to read a little more widely.
