Maybe I am too cynical, but I am always Leary about these gimmicky approaches to teaching and when something that high school students are doing is lauded as somehow profound.

The profundity of youth has never impressed me even when I was that age and as for the approach to learning, I would be interested in knowing how it correlates with the grades they end up earning and their SAT scores.
