In all fairness, the Desert Rats as a unit were never a truly heavy armored unit. They worked best as a light armor and recce unit, where they made their name. In short, they should really be in Land Rovers and Warriors anyway.

It's hard to say. Whereas in the US Army, brigades and divisions keep the same units indefinitely, the British with their old "arms plotting" rotated units in and out every 4-6 years. So the 7th brigade of today probably has completely different infantry regiments and armour battalions as the one ten years ago.
