My favorites uniform (and unit-wise) are the Grenadiers a Cheval de la Garde, and the Guard horse and foot artillery.

I wouldn't agree that body armor was outdated during the Napoleonic period. The French full cuirass was proof against sword, saber, lance and bayonet and very helpful in a melee against other cavalry. The large cavalry fight at Eckmuhl in 1809 definitely shows that.

For hussars, chasseurs a cheval, and horse artillery if and when they were in hussar dress, the dolman without pelisse was worn in the field during the summer. Winter dress would add the pelisse worn as an overgarment.

Many times, though, the horse artillery and Guard chasseurs a cheval would be in service dress, with the hussar style dress in the supply wagons.

Sincerely,
M

Rousselot watercolours

Its wonderful to see these Rousselot watercolours - but they have been taken from the A. S. K. Brown Collection, from 'Reunion des musees nationaux' and Bertrand Malvaux.

From what I have seen the Brown collection has quite a liberal policy on allowing images to be used on blogs and suchlike - *if* they are asked and credit is given. I can't speak for them but if you take a bunch of their pictures and post them without permission I could see them getting annoyed.

Likewise the RMN - though I imagine their policy is slightly less liberal.

The Brown collection and the RMN are putting online some amazing pictures - reposting them here without credit/permission is not a good thing...

Thanks - Andym for the pointer. I had found the plates on the web & they were unattributed... but to save the chance of causing any offence I will delete the entries (now done).

Well, seem to be that we have once again some problem with the rights of author of any of the images put.

By the part that can concern me, have to recognise that I do not remember exactly that exact place have collected the images, but as I always have said if there is some problem of intellectual rights says me and immediately remove .

On the other hand, if I do not remember badly, the images lodged in the places that mention, need permission for his commercial reproduction (that I create is not the case that occupies us).

Another appearance that do not finish to see clear, is the representation of an anonymous character in three of the best world-wide libraries, think that in the case that any of these three institutions are interested would be convenient that put in contact with any of the administrators of the forum, as it was the case of Peter *Bunde to the that attended immediately and with all the respect.

Now well, teach to the people to look for think that does not have to be forbidden, and once known the sources to the people think that will not matter him do a bit of historical investigation.

A. S. K. Brown Collection

Reunion des musees nationaux

Bertrand Malvaux.

Thanks to all for trying do the things a bit easier

Thanks for posting that great picture. Do you have any more Confederation of the Rhine or more specifically Wurttembergers?

I'm a great fan of the Confederation states of Wurttemberg, Baden, Hesse-Darmstadt, and Saxony (especially the Saxon cavalry).

Sincerely,
M
