Yep, its a long running sore in this country. As Gooner pointed out there are no easy choices, just hard ones in this discussion.

Perception is a vital element in how a nation competes for foreign investment, and the correct perception in this instance is that in the coming yrs that the SE of England will be woefully short of (acceptable & needed) airport capacity/infrastucture.

Since 1970 this country has been discussing where to expand in the Thames estuary, its hardly surprising I'm cynical of yet another report or commission that will ultimately join a pantheon of others that have gone before it.

On Monday Prime Minster Cameron complained about 'dither' so what does he do about the issue of a new runway, well he dithers by setting up a commission to look into the matter. The issues are well known and the Government should be making a decision now. How the Germen and Dutch must be laughing at how they are getting on will ensuring more flights come to their country, while Britain can only dither and put off a decision until after 2015.

Boris Johnson has called for the debate over Heathrow's future and alternative airport capacity in southern England to be decided by the end of next year.

The mayor of London said rivals were "forging ahead" while the UK was deliberating and he described a review due to report in 2015 as "glacial".

"There is no reason to go on for three years discussing this," he said.

Some ministers had been "bewitched" by airlines and others lobbying for a new Heathrow runway, he added.
