Not sure what you mean. My response highlighted some bribery issues associated with US companies in the past and the resulting legislation.

If my company hired a "non-US local consultant" it will show up under the contract. If the company paid for the "local consultant" off the books, they are leaving themselves open to some severe consequences including jail time for the responsible executives.

Yes indeed. Much "third world'' business is carried out in a similar manner.

It's just part of the culture, and there's little, realistically, that can be done about it.

India is not the USA however there was once a time when the US was a byword for political and financial corruption and an honest politician was once defined as one who stays bought. Standards have improved (and the corrupt have found cleverer ways of concealing their corruption)

India has huge problem with Corruption, and People though not like it but are used to it,

Both Congress and BJP has done it's bit to tackle problem but their own party men will not allow any reform to succeed,

Now it has became very difficult for Big Wigs to go away with corruption , a good functioning but unfortunately slow Judicial System dose not allows culprit to continue further.

Many Big Politicians end up in Jail. but due to their populist policies, voters tend to ignore their follies and reelect them again.

Caste, Regional Preferences decide the fate of a political candidate rather then his honesty and integrity,

Aren't you the guys with surface ships without missiles, carriers without planes, and subs that leak? At least India got weapons that worked.

The UK's government has been for sale since the Colonial days, for sex if cash wasn't enough. Or at least those who didn't work for the Soviets were, anyway.

Of course not.

But its as pure as the wind-driven snow compared to the UK. Aren't they having to gut an entire series of frigates to install engines that work?

At this point the Royal Navy has self-disarmed its entire tiny fleet.

The USN, always our weak link, has screwed up, but at least we killed the construction order before the first 'stealth' boat hit water.

I didn't start the finger-pointing, BTW. If you can't take it, don't try to run a bluff.

I agree AJR, But sadly the British that once run such things as the ship building still had a patriotism mixed in with the occasional backhander which carried on through to pride in their work. Sadly those days are gone and they don't give a damn as long as they can make a quick buck. I believe that the pride of country has gone down the plug hole in the UK and it is reflected in such things as you have pointed out. Thank God we can at least still point to our Top Regiments and Corps. lcm1
