Yes, Baltic was heavily mined by Germans and Finns, and I presume it was very bad idea of pushing Soviet submarines into the sea patrols in such situation (I mean in 1941-42) - when subs' routes weren't sufficiently swept.

Certainly no Axis air superiority in 1945 In my use expression "late war" is anything from 1944> May 1945.
