lcm1's part time job was stretcher bearer, I only ever carried a telegraph pole on a stretcher... it's harder than it looks in the movies!

And that is how the stretcher bearers came to have a sten gun in our battalion. The army type stretcher in those days weighed a 'ton' particularly when you also carried full infantry gear and firstaid kit. That MO by the way was the only one I ever saw that also carried a pistol on his hip!! lcm1

great story sir! have you ever shoot your sten to protect you and/or the casualty you were transporting? hope it's magazine didn't fall off on that time

Yes,there were occasions,in my own protection and I must admit that the Gods must have been with me at the time (no fall outs) before and after,yes numerous times!! lcm1

This would split it evenly between the Sten and the PPSh.

Many resistance fighters across Europe had the stark choice of a Sten or nothing, and did amazing things with a tenth-rate weapon.

The millions of PPShs proved that, 'Quantity has a quality all its own.'

I don't think any of them are worthless POS.

the USSR had enough faith in the PPSH41 to produce millions of them.

The Suomi m-31 probably killed more people, gun for gun, than any of the smgs depicted above. The finns actually based half of their infantry squads around this gun, with the remainder carrying rifles. The other squads were based on their LMG. It apparently had better accuracy and firing characteristics than the PPSH due to its construction and long/heavy barrel.

The Beretta 38 was another prime SMG, and was often equipped with a 10-magazine 'samurai vest' for the trooper.

Both were expensive, high quality weapons that were better than the rest. They were only built in the thousands rather than the millions.

Out of the commonly used smgs, I would go for the PPSH with drum magazine. Survival trumps weight in this instance.
