I don't think a photo of the right hand side does exist, I'll look but it took quite some time collecting the ones I have already posted.... I wont be holding my breath.

You mean the left side, of course.

Perhaps the right side is of primary interest because that's the side it got KO'd from?

It's good for propaganda I guess, a relatively new tank takes out a panther with its first shot... plus add a few more rounds just to be sure the job was done properly.

True enough, although taking out a Panther from the side was nothing special in itself. Shermans and Cromwells could accomplish that with relatively little difficulty.

I read somewhere else that the tank was filled with ammo, and burned for a whole day. That probably explains the lack of mountings and Zimmeriet.

In the Film clip you can see tools mounted in the closeup shot, but the quality is too poor to tell if there was or wasn't Zimmerit on it... (At least for my eyes )

That might cause most of the zimmerit to drop off, but the mountings? Not so sure about that.

It would have to burn pretty darn hot to melt the mountings, were they welded on?

Generally, a mixture of welded and bolted fittings.

Yes, that's the conclusion I would come to. Stowage was removed afterwards.

Okay forumites.

Here is a difficult task.

Ignore the soldiers behond the infantry support weapon.

Please identify the tank that is just partially available for view.

Oh, BTW, this picture is an example of how US Army Scouts had to identify AFVs during the late 1970s. You were given 10 seconds to give country and name of vehicle.

Once you have completed this task, I have another tank challenge.

Well the gun is definitely a 75mm KwK 40 and the hull MG and the height of the main gun make me think it's a Pz.Kpfw. IV. Judging by the main gun which looks like and L43 I'd say Ausf. F2 or Ausf. G.

F2 for my vote. It has the rounded muzzle break.
