I think you found it!
Yesterday I also took a look at Google Earth, I found that type of crossroad to be very likely the one on the photo (there is lot of them around city), I started to search first from the east of Tien an men square, but I somehow missed the glass building.

BTW last year I was very close to that place, nearby is famous Silk street market, where tourists come for cheap shopping.
