George Washington Honor Medal was awarded to Chattanooga's Armed Forces Day Parade

Armed Forces Day, Collegedale Veterans Park Cited
posted February 13, 2007

The first Armed Forces Day was proclaimed in 1949 by President Harry Truman and the Freedoms Foundation was established the same year to honor patriotism & good citizenship. The Chattanooga Chapter was organized in 1969 by Margaret Cooper. Local efforts to honor and respect members of the United States Armed Forces received national recognition as two organizations received national awards from the Chattanooga Chapter, Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge at their annual National Awards Ceremony Sunday at the Fuller Memorial Community Center at the Collegedale City Hall.

The George Washington Honor Medal was awarded to Chattanooga's Armed Forces Day Parade in recognition of having staged an annual parade for 57 years to honor those who have served, are currently serving and who will serve the nations military.

The George Washington Honor Medal was also presented to Dr. Phil Garver in recognition of the Veterans Memorial Park of Collegedale which commemorates the sacrifices of veterans on behalf of all Americans and for his vision to create such a memorial.

The George Washington Honor-Essay Award was presented to Priya Boyington, Kara Manley and Drew Loizeanx in recognition of their outstanding essays as high school juniors to qualify for leadership training at Valley Forge, Pa.

So, if you're in Chattanooga go see it!
