Actually, Russian (counter) offensive was an almost non-stop action from 19 November 1942 well into Spring 1943. On 2 February - the day the last German/Axis troops surrendered in Stalingrad - Soviet army was already on the Rostov and Biisk threshold, liberated great part of Northern Caucasus, was directing its attacks on Kursk, Belgorod, Kharkov and Voroshilovgrad. Essential territorial takeover was achieved even without troops engaged in the Operation Ring.
