Question Allied General PS1 on the PSII

I started playing this when I started having computer problems, U.S. and the British side was no problem, but the Russians........ I got nowhere with!!!!

Can anyone give me some advise on how to "do" the Russian side, I've tried everything and I can't get to far. Maybe a site I can read up on, I checked Game Spot, nothing there.

Cheers, thanks in advance here guys!!

My good friend, and ACG member, Red Skull, plays the Russian campaign. I can't get past the second scenario without losing core units. I'll get him over here this week, and let him lay down the Russkie Plan.

Allied General Great Patriotic War

The way I beat the russian campaign was by developing my engineers (at least 2), KV heavy tanks, and regular infantry and cavalry. the first level, finland, I disband the recon car and replace it with a tank. Air force can wait until 2nd or better 3rd level and then focus on a few elite fighters, followed by Sturmovic bombers. Infantry, Armour, and Artillery are your most valuable assets but without halftracks or well developed road systems you have to move efficiently, moving critical elite units to the front or objective.Planning must be meticulous and I sometimes turned off the weather in order to achieve my objectives. I also saved at the end of every term so I could get a reasonable outcome. It just requires some patience in the early levels. Later in the gam, the JS tanks, and Guard Cavelry are the best in the game and with experience the paratroopers aren't bad. Partisans are also fun, but I was disapointed that the SMG infantry from Panzer General weren't included.

Thumbs up

I'll try that for Finland, but on the next one, I just can't get a break on that one. just to many German units, even with the Prest turned all the way down, I can't even get to my objectives...... And almost not hold mine.

Your thoughts there please?

Thanks

Tom

Patriotic War

Finland is a good place to get experience for your engineers and tanks. Artillery units build experience slowly so worry about getting good hits wth infantry and tanks. Without halftracks cavalry is all important to keep up with tanks and to serve as regulars as a supplement to your elite, city-taking engineer units. Think about an AD gun. In the 2nd level (Pskov?} initial deployment is all important. You get a few core units so buy some Heavy Tanks. There is a large forest with some nearby axiliary units that most of your artillery, they should all be the 15.5cm guns btw, should be based in, along with most of your regular infantry and a tank or two, setting up a large, flexible defensive line/trap. Hope for succesful attacks with your tanks and rugged defence for your infantry. concentrate on destroying units in one turn, not allowing them the chance to escape, especially mobile forces, and defensive artillery fire even using artillery to defend artillery. Deploy engineers, maybe cavalry, a heavy tank, an artillery and buy a tank or two in the eastern city with the river wrapped around it. You move first, so deploy in the river and prepare to move south. Your city should be easy to defend thanks to nateral features, so you can send most of your forces to sweep the germans away from the south, and then from behind in a north western direction. The KV tanks are almost invulnerable in the open, but keep infantry in woods whenever possible. consider transport upgrades for the units defending the rear cities. In the northwest opposition is also exceptionally thin but it tended to be a slightly tougher fight for me.
In general with that level you have to be patient, gain experience, preserve your core units, and destroy the enemies mobile forces. even with a minoe victory you can gone on to Berlin. Maybe even with a minor defeat. After a few levels it gets easier.

Salute.

I am surprised someone would even attempt the soviet campaign. It is definately the toughest of the series. But it also has some of the best units, and biggest battles. Urrah!!!

I bet you could find a PS1 save card easy. Merely post a "want to buy" notice at some local schools. Those kids have long since stopped using theirs. I bet you could have a PS1 card in record time that way. Either that, or the local buy n sell schlock stores might have them. There was sooo many of the things made, but they have long since stopped being of interest to the teen crowd.

My son has a spindle of PS1 games he never plays any more. He occasionally gets bored, and loads em all up just to laugh at them then he puts them back away as not able to interest him any longer.

By the way, Allied General and Panzer General on PC is soooooo much faster in response time than the PS1 version, that you likely won't be able to stomache the PS1 version after trying the other.

But, if you go PC, you might need to hunt down a specific Wing32.dll file to make it run. No fears, I have run Allied General in XP. I have what you might require.

Talking I started with Finland again

So now I am going trying to get that perfect force, xp and finding the turn and point limits for each type of victory, and defeat even. Thats as far as I've gotten, there always seems to something to be done "better", so I hit the reset and start over again for Finland...

Cheers

Tom
