Pigs will fly out of my butt. It's pretty obvious by now (see also Zimbabwe, Iran, NK) that neither China nor Russia are going to "play ball" on much of anything. I'm afaraid the bottom line is that unless the US does the intervening (which will always **** lots of folks off) nothing will get done. So if the "crisis de jour" isn't important enough to the US to sacrifice our soldiers and $$, no one else will bother. And Sudan and Zimbabwe are never going to be that important to the US.
Iran on the other hand... And here we can't even count on "actual" European help. Sure Germany, France, and the rest are soooooo happy to talk. But when it comes to actions. Well a German engineering firm; after heavy and unseemly lobbying by the local pol; got approval for a $150,000,000 LNG plant in Iran. What about Ms. Merkel's nice speech in the Knesset on how Germany was all for stopping Iran?? Well the logic herei s since this structure will be built in Germany (and hence provide nice paying jobs for the local political boss's folks) it didn't violate Ms. Merkel's ban. With friends like these...
So that's how it goes. You either have the warmongering US (with a couple of minor allies, maybe) doing that internationally condemned unilateralist thing; or you get the Europeans wringing their hands and mourning the dead innocents. But at least the latter salves the Euro's conscience; a simple task as it has little memory and lots of practice. Not so sure the Sudanese or Zimbabweans are as happy about that...
