You must have missed this passage.

"Almost immediately after the German invasion SS troops, with the active cooperation of many civilians and some self-styled "partisan" units, began systematically murdering the large Jewish populations of Vilnius and Kaunas. By war's end they had slaughtered all but a few thousand of Lithuania's Jews.

And this one.

"Recently opened Soviet archives reveal that by 1949 spetsgruppy had infiltrated partisan units to their very highest levels."

What year is now, 1985? The true scale of deportations was established by historians a long time ago. If Ed Lengel haven't heard about them then the best he could was to study the topic before writing articles. And what is the habbit of putting the abbreviation GULag in a plural form? That is simply illiterate. Here is a book which is more an academic study and with more ample use of Russian archival sources:

Only thing I can say about that is 'gulag' has become a word in the English Language, so its not illiterate to use it in a plural form.

What's with the habit of taking a plural noun like "sportsmen" and having it be singular and adding an "a" to make it plural or a "ka" and making a plural noun referring to a group of men refer to a signal woman. That is simply illiterate. Oh wait no it's not it's simply a different language.
