This company makes excellent 1911 pistols that I understand are well regarded by the community. I never owned one, but love this classic.

Didn't Kimber buy Auto-Ordnance (which made really elegant 1911A1s and Thompsons)?

Jon, it was Kahr that bought Auto Ordnance (basically just the name).
MZ- Kimber has had plenty of QC issues over the years. They grew too quickly and sacrificed quality over quantity. Springfields, Colts and others are just as good, if not better.

I myself own a Kimber 1911A1 CDP II model. Let me tell you that I like this one even more so than the Springfield that I carried while in the Navy. Of course she has a number of extra's that the military weapon did not such as the tritium night sights, rubber grips, and for the lefty that I am the ambidextrous thumb safety is really nice to have.

Whatever happened to the Auto-Ordnance products after that? The Auto-Ordnance 1911 is the best pistol I've ever had.
And how cool was their semi-auto, long-barreled "Tommy" gun - with the violin case....!
