Having played AGE games for over a decade, I concur that these are great games. It is similar to Axis and Allies but with more depth/intrigue. It is pretty straightforward to learn and it takes 10-20 minute to submit your turn weekly. Different scenario's are available: Ancient, Medieval, Napoleonic, Shogun, Fantasy and Galactic.
The game comes down to controlling provinces to gain income, diplomacy with other players, buy the right units and win battles! Goal is to win the game by controlling a certain number of province worth/regions. You can win the game with allies that you form during the game.
In my opinion, the Napoleonic games are the best to start with for beginners: these games start more regularly and end faster. The games are free to play with the option to upgrade to "royal level" (small fee). Royalty allows you to improve your economy more (later in game) and recruit leaders that enhance the strength of you armies (and more importantly to support the GM for these great games).
The games have been restarted by a new owner last year (after a period of no activity) and we veterans are looking for fresh blood to play with/against.
Feel free to ask any questions, I have zero financial interest in these games, just very much enjoy them.
