Then those "overly religious people" can do without electricity so that less will need to be generated for the rest of us, since generating electricity requires destroying some of God's goal, oil or gas. Perhaps they can burn their bibles to keep warm.

No problem. Works for me.

I get so resolutely sick of the PC "Green" moniker for some things!

TacCovert, your friend is very wise!

But the term - in your friends case, and mine - would be more accurately expressed as "Sustainability".

I, too, am very much into the very real personal/fiscal benefits of energy alternatives/strategies/efficiencies/savings...

And they do reduce mans environmental impact, which isn't a bad thing...

But that is but a byproduct to me - and it sounds like he.

How am I so certain?

(For those that even attempt it, that accreditation is something most Architects & Engineers miserably fail at least once - often twice. Not me!)

Could ask the French what they do with their nuclear waste. They're the experts in this field and , IMO, made the most sensible decision after the oil crisis in 1974.

Nuclear power is THE way to go. Solar and wind are technological dead ends for the foreseeable future in large scale applications.

For example paving over 286,000 acres in Arizona is being proposed for a solar plant. This represents an area from roughly Yuma to Gila Bend, I 8 to the Gila River. All the agriculture in this area would be ended leaving a massive truck farm shortage in the Southwest.
In addition, this would create a massive urban heat island effect of unknown results on weather in Southern Arizona.

Nuclear is the smart way. The plants fit on a relative postage stamp sized area. It is renewable using breeder technologies (Thorium 232 to Uranium 233 gives us 20,000 years of fuel). It is safe as practiced in the West. Three Mile Island was a worst case scenario for the US nuclear power industry. Nobody died. Nobody got cancer. The plant was made safe afterwards even if non-operational.
As for waste the US has a repository in Yucca Mountian. The only thing keeping it from opening is stupidity from the Left. Aside from that if there is enough we will figure out how to use it for something useful. After all, we have gone from chopping down forests and burning them to nuclear power in just 300 or so years. Where will we be in 300 more. Those that claim this stuff will be around, dangerous and, useless for a "million years" are retards too.

If the US build one Palo Verde sized nuclear plant per state we could convert to hydrogen for mobile fuel. This would end the idiocy of electric and hybred cars and make a truly green and efficent car the norm. Electricity would be dirt cheap so we could cut out most or all of the nonsense about conserving tiny amounts of power with stupidities like CFLs.

But Neeooooo..... The Left and retards like Obama and The Minions of Ignorance, who I might add took no science, mathematics, economics, business, education beyond high school if that, are the ones telling us that solar, wind and battery cars that take eight hours to recharge are the future.

Nuclear is the answer. I'm waiting for our so-called brilliant leaders to realize it.

Three simple words... Fast Breeder Reactors. Easy and safe solution to electricity generation.

Unfortunately..."The Left and retards like Obama and The Minions of Ignorance" will embrace oil shales and tar sands before they give an inch on nuclear power.

Actually, Obama and The Minions of Ignorance will not embrace anything that the radical eco-Left doesn't. Here's a little musical accompanyment:

We inspected a WIPP truck this evening.Despite having Plutonium and Americium waste in it,the measurable radiation was virtually nil.Basically only background radiation. They take these loads to Carlsbad,NM for the Waste Isolation Pilot Project.

Pretty much. After 14 days most fuel rods fall to a very low and stable level of radioactive output that is easily managed. They are really only dangerous if the fuel is exposed and you are silly enough to ingest it as most of the residual radiation is Alpha and Beta in nature.

Of course, try telling this to a Leftist who majored in Art History and took a semester or two of astronomy (and barely passed) at most as their "hard" science course.

The USGS has done extensive studies & the US government has spent a load of bucks making a mountain in Nevada ready to take expended radioactive material from hospitals, energy plants, etc. Unfortuantely there is one large insumountable roadblock about actually doing something logical with the radioactive waste. Nevada senator Harry Reid.

This Obama chap is very strange. On issues whose impact and decision horizon literally stretched for decades, like health care and climate change (I mean like they've been issues since - what? - the late 1980's?), Obama is insisting that a decision needs to be made NOW.

On Afghanistan, where the commanding general is telling him that he needs to make a decision NOW, he's saying he needs more time to think of a change in strategy.

I know what's his problem. In all other issues, he can just throw the ball to congress to sort out.

On Afghanistan, it is his decision to make.

I think Obama, if he had been a Roman, would be called Ostrichas Pasdebucas.

Nary a thought toward if he could actually do the job. Oooooops!
