First Unread Post link don't.

I can't get the First Unread Post link to take me to the first unread post. It puts me at least a page behind that elusive goal.

That thing has not worked right for a few years for me. I always thought it was a cookie related issue that is beyond my caveman computer skills.

When I'm on "New Post" page, each thread titles starts off with an icon button that looks like two downward pointing chevrons. That used to take me to the first unread post, but now it doesn't seem to recognize the last post that I've read so it takes me back too far and I have to scroll downward or advance page by page until I recognized where I left off. It is not a site problem as it has become the same at all the other forums that I also visit.

I suspect it has to do with a cookie setting.

I clear my cookies at least once a week. I have never got that thing to work as advertised. And I'll bet it never does.

I think blocking cookies somehow might be the reason it doesn't work. It worked fine for me until maybe two/three years ago. Would a new version of Firefox have anything to do with something like this?

I don't block cookies here. And I'm using Chrome. I'll see if Firefox does the same thing.

In my last days as a full time working stiff I was with Symbian, project managing the porting of the Opera browser onto an early Nokia smart phone. As you may be aware there is an international standard for HTML which web site builders use. All the browser makers have signed up to it but apart from Opera no one was fully 100% compliant. (And now Opera have started using the Chrome engine probably not even them now). I know I took the trouble to go through the browsers then extant and log the differences. These usually amount to "extra" non standard HTML features or variations on how some common ones work. Depending on whose version of HTML the creator of a web page was using some features may work on one browser but differently or not at all on another. So yes changes in your browser could be one possible answer.

It might, since all of those cookies do not always transfer to the update. I quit using the "last unread" feature years ago, and now that I think about it, that was around the time of Firefox's major upgrade.

i just chalked it off to my Ludditism.

Current Firefox works for the issue resolution. But that's not enough for me to use Firefox except for specific applications.
